"There is no doubt, the economic impact is already clear," he said. "There have already been fairly dramatic consequences from that tweet, and I have read some of the media suggesting that we are not supporting Daryl Morey, but in fact we have."

"I think as a values-based organization that I want to make it clear...that Daryl Morey is supported in terms of his ability to exercise his freedom of expression."

"I accept that it is also Chinese governments' and Chinese businesses' right to react to those words and, at least from my long-time experience in the NBA, it will take some time to heal some of these issues."

"I would like to believe, as a combination of Daryl Morey's tweet and Joe Tsai's response, that many sports fans that don't pay all that much attention to politics, or to the situation in China and Hong Kong, may as a result know far more now about the situation."

In fact his words in this interview are much stronger than the soft statement yesterday and he insisted on the value of about free speech and encouraging its employee to speak out about social events.

Okay, this eases concerns that Morey will be fired any time soon.

Could this actually be Morey's goal? Morey is a smart guy and rarely talks about politics on Twitter. Ringer reported that Morey had some friends in HK. Could it be a calculated decision by Morey to help his friends out in HK by causing a reaction and garner NBA fans' support for the protest?

No, Morey got emotional and made a very ill-advised tweet under the circumstances.

China NBA fans are going berserk now on Silver's response.

They are calling for the FULL BAN of NBA in China.

    Meanwhile,

check this out from Twitter, you can see what kind of quality, their logic and value are for the posters coming from China.

It's never enough for people where strong state support is expected and required for survival. They will soon call for banning basketball... as the commies have entered a purity spiral.

I know this is a difficult question, but how many of those fans do you think are bots/trolls vs. people that actually want the NBA out of China? I'm seeing a lot of sh*t on weibo as well and I suspect some may be (just like on twitter) super annoying bots but I can't be sure because idk how to get the data besides looking at every individual account for followers.

    Well,

I would say about half of the fans there are willing to let go of the NBA to defend the integrity of their country.

and I think its safe to say at least 90% or more the fans there now hate the Rockets.

Fans? Or more of th sockpuppet garbage we're dealing with here at CF?

People, China is a Communist totalitarian state. The 'voice of the people' as reported by media, or seen on social media? Isn't.

It is a lie. Because that's what Communist countries do. Didn't we learn this already from dealing with the Soviets all those years?

Really glad to see Silver stick up for Morey and free expression the way he did. I didn't think he had it in him, tbh.
