There were no trade rumors till it happened. Why would his team not float that out there because him not signing the tag and not showing up makes him look bad

Do you realize he missed an entire preseason. Im making a point about time. This situation drug out. The tag was offered in mid July

It totally made sense for them to be weary of offering long term money.

Edi: not just Clowney as an individual but team wise. He and Watt played well but their defense was not good against good teams. They counted in pass rush to mask other holes

    Agreed.

There’s plenty to criticize the organization for overall, but their desire to cut ties with Clowney, or avoid long term commitments is not one of them.

Arguing the rest of the issues here is semantics... those that dislike the Texans organization as a whole will continue to find blame in each/every corner.

Yeah the grievance was not with the Texans and playing for the Texans wouldn't have changed anything.

Players hold out through preseason all the time and then show up and play the season. Nothing new there.

Who cares whom it was with, its his official complaint. The point is the money not the team

    Exactly my point.

As a pass rusher is Clowney more valuable than Miller?

It matters because you are insinuating that this is the reason he wasn't going to play for the Texans. He ended up signing the tender and is playing with the Seahawks on the exact same deal he would have if he played with the Texans. The lawsuit is irrelevant to if he played in Houston.

He signed the deal partly because they are listing him as an end

A DIRECT DIFFERENCE FROM HIS OFFICIAL COMPLAINT

That Miller is a much better player and would have more of a grievance. Regardless of what he played in college, Clowney was a linebacker here

Edit: his value regardless is being a big ass explosive linebacker who can pass rush and chase running backs to the outside

    @Nimo

What is your reason he signed to facilitate the trade?

He is listed as an end now. So ill ask you why did he sign if he didn't want to be traded?

Edit: i understand he signed as a linebacker im saying going forward he is a defensive end in Seattle which would not happen here

Dude, you've been proven wrong already. Like I said and @bobrek confirmed, he is not making any more money with the Seahawks than he would have with the Texans. The LB/DE designation has nothing to do with where he is playing now. It is based on where the league decides he has played in the past. He didn't want to be traded to the Dolphins. Before the trade occurred, a report (stop calling them rumors), listed his preference was to play with the Eagles or the Seahawks. The Texans got on the phone with the Seahawks, got robbed, and Clowney agreed to sign.

Because he wanted to play for the Eagles or Seahawks, if he was going to be traded.

So yourargument is that the Texans actually wanted something but just gave up and took nothing?

I know he isnt making end money now and i knew that when i wrote it.

He is listed as an end NOW

By the way the grievance was filed there seems to not have been anything that could be done about the past. If so wouldn't he force them to sign him as an end also

Edit: i didnt read the entire post. I agree they could only franchise him as a linebacker
