So we were going to cut our 3rd round pick after one year?

Wasn’t Rankin a 3rd rounder a year ago? Reports are we were going to release him and dealt him for another player about to be dealt (Hyde).

This trade is looking BETTER and BETTER by the game. Most you guys thought this was a throw away. However, Hyde seems to be the back BoB has wet dreams about; punishing back back that can run in between the tackles and move the chains. Dare I say a Thunder and Lightning with him and Duke Johnson?

Hyde seems competent between the tackles runner. Duke Johnson is not lightning.

Don’t romanticize this. This isn’t thunder and lightning. It’s more like burp and fart. We are hoping for league average production that will largely result from the other more dangerous threats on the field.

Burp and fart? Um....you are getting MUCH better than league average from the 2 backs. Texans are 5th in rushing after 2 games. If you get top 10 production all season, that is much more than you hoped for. It doesn't matter who else is on the field, it is about the production that comes from it.

Hasn't had a rush attempt of negative yards yet.

Pretty much all of us here have been crying for a power RB to go with the finesse pass catching Lamar or Duke. The defense is spread out with the receivers and QB to account for. Of course Carlos Hyde is running well. Now imagine how much better an Adrian Peterson or Leveon Bell or someone who hasn't been on 5 teams in the last 4 years would be.

Great. We now have baby hands, burp and fart. Worst nicknames in the history of the NFL.

He is the biggest positive surprise. I thought he was just a face-saving way to dump Martinas Rankin without cutting him.

I didn't exactly focus on him a ton before he was here, but I am a bit concerned that he was so mediocre for so many different teams over so many years.

What has changed? The simplest explanation is the small sample size indicates a fluke, but maybe not. Maybe he was horibly misused by 4 or 5 different previous teams. Maybe something else explains it.

I will be cautiously optimistic. If he becomes a perennial all pro I'm on board. If not my heart won't be broken.

Hyde has done suprising well, Duke Johnson is more meh than anything. Scarface likes to hype up the positive stuff, even though it isn't much.

I watched Hyde a few games in 2016 and he looked fantastic. In fact, he's running the same way again. He may have been nicked up, but splitting a season between two teams can be tough--2018 was not a good year for him and I think KC was enamored with speed. This is one trade that looks like BOB actually got more value than he gave up. Now watch Rankin be an All-Pro in KC.

Just to be honest, both players were going to be cut, so calling it a great trade is a bit of a stretch.

    It's weird he wears 23.

I think he's playing so well because he was on so many teams. He even said he's running with a passion. He's running with a purpose. That's what he's built for, and he's got a reason to harness that now. And O'Brien loves to run between the tackles.

    I like it.
