Remember a couple of years ago when he and Archie Bradley were the chosen darlings for the "new bullpen use"...multiple innings at any point of the game? That theory hasn't aged well.

In that case you're of the opinion that the Astros should ride out all their starters till game 162 for the possibility of securing home field against the Dodgers/Yankees for that advantage? Then I think we just disagree on this.

what? lol i have no idea how you came to that conclusion from what I posted. health is important of course. that's a given, everyone knows that. lets not be so dramatic now

you specifically said homefield is virtually useless. that part right there yeah, I definitely disagree. and im sure the comments of astros players noticing how yankee stadium is so loud that it rattled them in their previous WS run, think fairly similiar. And if you've ever been to a playoff game here, you'd know how great of an atmosphere it is at MM

Meanwhile, everyone's favorite "how could we trade him?!" elite closer, Josh Hader, has blown 4 out of 5 save opportunities this month alone, and given up runs in every outing in August.

Yeah the reality is that it is very hard to be a multi inning reliever and to be elite AND it is very hard to do it year after year. Those guys have a shelf life shorter than even high inning starters.

Unfortunately I don’t think the Astros have completely scrapped the idea. They were talking about a deal for Bradley near the deadline and they were trying to get James to go multiple innings.

It is just a hard job, being a top end reliever. Everyone expects no blown saves and no runs allowed. Guys run into tough spots. Even Mariano Rivera had a couple bad spells where people thought he was losing it.

As Astros fans we are spoiled. We expect our team to score multiple times after the 6-7th inning but also expect our closer and set up man to not allow runs.

If you go look at the top relievers even 2 years ago, there is a lot of turnover.

Hope there is a quick hook if Osuna gets in trouble. Not excited to see him entering but he's due to have a shut down inning...surely.

Due in what way? He hasn't given up a run in 4 of his last 5 appearances, and no baserunners in 3 of them.

Yeah I’m not sure where this idea that Osuna has been blowing saves left and right and has been consistently shelled has come from.

Osuna has been what was expected when the season started. He has a sub 3.00 era, he has a whip of sub .9 and is on pace for 35 saves and is still only 24 years old... he doesn’t walk anyone and gets over a K an inning. The only number up for him is homers allowed, and a lot of pitchers have give up more homers this year.

The X factor may be Josh James, if he can get healthy. He won't have the wear and tear of the other relievers and he can absolutely be a weapon in small samples.

Just look at Oakland alone: Trivino and Treinen were damn near unhittable for a couple of years, not so much now.

Even the announcers are uncomfortable with him in pressure situations

Something wrong with the guy. The velocity is there, he’s just not the same. Maybe it’s in his head. Regardless, we could really use vintage Osuna because I’m afraid this version is going to hurt us in the playoffs.

He's a major concern come playoff time and that's not a overreaction.

It’s embarrassing that he gets credited for the win. Stole that win from Cole.
