Its actually $53m when you factor in salary and tax. What makes it intriguing for the Rockets is that they could essentially do the deal for Shumpert and a small salary - not have to give up a key piece. Most other options , that's not very realistic , you'd be offering up EG and picks which isn't ideal.

I guess the question is how much does he have in the tank ? I'd probably pass …. but be looking to fill that void sooner than later.
If I'm Morey , I'm looking for a young player still on a rookie deal so you have team control for a few years.

@BimaThug At what point do Shumpert's bird rights expire - meaning he could no longer be used in such a sign and trade scenario.

Players cannot be signed-and-traded once the regular season starts. He can still be signed and then later traded, but the team would need to wait three months before he would be trade-eligible.

So the day before the regular season begins is the cut off point for his use in a straight up S&T - After that we can stop the discussion of Shump S&T for X.

I don't expect they to sign him other than for the express purpose of a S&T , cant see him on the roster for 90 days for any sizable salary.

Apparently another asset down the tubes. Luxury Tax savings strikes again.

And yet....there are still people defending Tilman. Pretty hilarious.

I assume that in both the SnT or Sign (and then possibly trade) scenarios Rox will be hard capped right? is not like they are going to sign him for the Vet Min.

No. A sign-and-trade only hard-caps the team that RECEIVES the signed-and-traded player.

    No.

The team receiving the Signed player is the one that's hard capped.

In the sign and wait 90 days scenario neither team is hard capped.

The issue is the amount of salary a team will have to send out to match. If the Grizz wanted shump then they could’ve had him for less salary if they would’ve expanded the Westbrook trade. Now they would have to pay shump more. They are asking for a 1st bc of the bad salary that they would have to take back. Not bc they think Iggy is worth a frp.

I doubt they'd give him anything more than the minimum.

Probably. Wasting Knight’s expiring on him remains moronic, however...Shumpert is a free rotation player. Have to at least bring him back for depth.

They've wasted quite a few assets since Tilman took over …. what's one more ?

Its really frustrating having the best offensive player of the era and not giving him everything you possibly can to win just to save a money. You cant put a price on championships.

Greenland And Iam Shumpert to the U.S., Alaska to Russia and Crimea to Denmark in a blockbuster three-team trade," the LA Times' Matt Pearce tweeted.[IMG]
