Gordon - has been solid for us in the playoffs. He desperately knocked down shots and brought energy when needed. He also is a solid defender.

CP3 - Made our star become passable. Not his fault but this is what happens with harden ITS PROVEN.

You bring in someone else who likes to have ball. This is not going to work!!

Trade CP3 & Capela with him if you need to.

However I would love to look at other options in a Capela trade.

    Harden
    Butler
    Gordon
    PJ

    Paul is not getting traded

1 because it’s unrealistic due to that contract
2 I don’t believe he asked to be traded. Was he angry? Sure but enough to want out I have my doubts

So the contract is the problem he has to stay.

Im not sure how this is going to work with 3 players who like to have the ball. It was a problem with just 2 last year

The problem last year was NOT 2 players wanting the ball. The problem last year was that one of those players did not uphold his end of the bargain. If CP3 doesn't regress the way he did, the Rockets likely go on and win 60 games again, and end up as the 2 seed at minimum. Getting the stars to buy in on the system has never been an issue, and it wouldn't be an issue if Jimmy came here.

With that being said, there are obviously things that need to be tweaked in the offense. More ball movement, and off-ball action should be added, as well as more midrange opportunities added into the repertoire. But an overhaul of the system is not necessary IMO.

    1. CP3 is almost untradeable
    2. Not a good look on the org if they trade him

It’s for this reason I’d be more okay trading CP3 and one of Capela or Gordon if we have to do a sign and trade. But it’d be infinitely harder to trade CP3 than Capela and Gordon.

At this point I don’t think it’d be a bad look. The current media narrative is CP3 doesn’t like harden and low key wants a trade. Trading him in the eyes on public opinion would be fulfilling his wishes.

The only real option though where CP3 would be happy imo is the Lakers though which can’t happen now so this is all just a theoretical exercise.

If Gordon's ball is going in and he plays consistent defense as he did in the playoffs, his is better than CP3 at this point. On the other hand, CP3 brings on court and sideline leadership, and an extremely high BB IQ. Gordon is a great supporting player to Harden, but CP3 can design and make plays even if he's not primary ball handler in those plays. If CP3 leaves, Harden will primarily play the role instead of the currently shared decision making. Call me foolish, but if Harden is the sole on-court playmaker, we will see more ISO and less movement.

CP3 cannot be traded. You may want to get rid of him but there is nobody in that league willing to take that contract. Going to have to ride with him. He will be horrid this year too. Father Time has zero losses. Adding Jimmy Butler at least gives Houston two stars.

the terrible offseason played a huge part in the regression of the team off the bat. picking up 3 players who were horrible fits while losing ariza and moute put this team in a huge hole. there was 0 depth whatsoever from the start

I think we’re approaching this the wrong way when considering Butler, CP3 and Harden. Teams make it work when 3 stars want the ball (LeBron Heat, Warriors, Magic’s Lakers, Bird’s Celtics, KG’s Celtics and even Barkley’s Rockets). There are proof points you can have ball-wanting players on the same team. Players just need to feel satisfied and utilized on the court. How does that happen? With the right offensive system. So go after Butler as hard as you can and push D’Antoni to change the offense so Butler and CP3 don’t get turned off over time (like has already happened with Paul) by watching Harden iso every play. Harden will need to iso during close out like Butler did in Philly, but those iso plays should occur every time in regular game moments.

If the offense doesn’t change, then surround Harden with top of the line, low-ego role players.

I think CP3 > Gordon in this line up
    That said
CP3 in Philly would help them immensely
CP3 with Simmons and Embiid would be a good mix

No it wasn’t. In the second half of the season Rockets were blowing teams out left and right. We lost to the Warriors, the team that got to the finals without Durant. We lost bc Capela was unplayable and we couldn’t get rebounds. In spite of being gravely undersized, we nearly knocked them off.

Again, the offensive style is not the problem. We beat the living crap out of a very good Jazz team in round 1. They were one of the top rated defensive teams and the Rockets flat out made their defense look silly. Butler would be a great addition to this team just like CP3 was the first year he got here and we actually had some wings with size. The wings we had were excellent defenders but offensively were just spot up shooter. Now imagine having a top 5 perimeter defender who can actually put the ball on the floor, post up, slash, finish above the rim, and shoot (yes his percentage isn’t great but with the Rockets, it should go up).

Lastly, anyone who thinks adding Butler is a bad idea likely thought adding CP3 was a bad idea. CP3 has been fine, if his contract was more reasonable, no one would be complaining about him. Even if the Rockets bring back the same team and run it back, they will easily be a top 2 or 3 team. Adding Butler would make them the best by a healthy margin.

It wasnt a problem. When? CP3 and Harden both pass. Harden played with Westbrook and Durant. All this talk is just a myth.
