Giannis had me a little nervous this season. When it's all said and done, he could one day join Dream on that list.

Unfortunately in today's NBA, there are only a hand full of players who play both offense and defense.. You have scorers who are specialist on offense and play little or no defense and defensive specialist who play little or no offense...

Right now I don't see that feat being accomplished again no time soon.

I don't know if today's Rocket fan would fathom or absorb this accomplishment.

I think it would make a Rocket fan do something crazy like create a site for diehard Rockets fans and go interview players and do podcast just because it happened.

He has to develop a mid range jumper and post game or else he's not going to be close to Dream at all.

I agree in terms of overall talent, but as far as matching Dream's feat, had he won the title he would have checked 2 of the 3 boxes. Then it would have been a waiting game to see if him or Gobert got DPOY.

How do you even begin to describe Hakeem?

"The Most Complete Player Ever" sounds most accurate and indisputable to me, but it just sounds so sterile as well.

I think of him as something more transcendent where words fail pretty quickly. His Dream Fade was beautiful; I'd liken it more to the experience of looking at a piece of fine art. Or his playing and dominating while fasting during Ramadan. Or his insistence to his team to put it all on his back and he'd carry them. I forget the circumstances where he said that to them, but it's always stuck with me. If you watched him, you have your own moment or library of moments that fit this experience for you.

There will never be another Hakeem, because he transcends something that could ever be replicated.

Check out the 45 second mark, it's a quote from Dream being guarded by 6'7'' Anthony Mason
aka the same size as Draymond Green

Dream as soon as he caught the ball, saw the double team coming, spins to the opposite sides and drops a fadeaway on the Knicks

Too quick, Too smart, Too pure

Hakeem also won Father of the Year after he sonned Barkley, Malone, and Ewing in the same playoffs.

What took Dream to elite status was the trust that he had in his teammates... Rudy T. finally convinced him that he couldn't win a championship on his own. That also helped take his game to a new level, no longer were teams able to just double and triple him on defense without paying the consequences.

Amazingly the same thing happened with Phil and Michael.

Heh, great quote. Hakeem was an engine that took slights against him and converted them into pure power.

I watched the whole thing. How could I not? There's nobody in the modern NBA with moves like that. Not even close. Also, he took and made shots from everywhere including a couple feet in front of the arc. Anybody think he couldn't have stepped back a couple feet if he wanted to? He had too much to do inside the arc, i.e. everything.

I wonder if there is a full set of complete games of that Knicks series out there. It'd be fun to organize a thread where we all watch them again simultaneously and relive it.

I never knew if those collections had the games in their entirety, but now that I look, they indeed do. I wonder if someone's ripped and uploaded them. It'd be fun to watch together. And it looks like a lot of people have had poor luck with the first disc or two being corrupted, so it'd be good to find a working video if it's out there. I'll keep looking. Link to the set for those wanting to buy it.

Hakeem was robbed, he should have had these back to back in 95 too.

Kawhi Leonard, KD, or Giannis could possibly repeat this feat, but it is definitely tough because the media and league doesn't like to give multiple accolades to the same person. I would bet on Kawhi, because he hasn't won a MVP yet and I don't think they are as stingy with giving multiple DPOY awards as MVPs.

MVP award is more of a popularity/trending contest vs best player.
