Yeah of course, but if we follow the rumors it doesn't look like he's staying, and that's the scenario i'm interested in, if he stays i have no doubt that Ainge is going after Davis, but if Irving bolts eh, i just don't see it tbh...

Pull up Hayward's stats when he was the Jazz centerpiece... There were a couple sequences in games after returning from injury that he showcased his point forward skills as well as a goodwill deamoner towards Tatum who basically took his starting spot. These were winning passes that only Paul or Harden could have contemplated and executed on this Rockets team. The playmaking ability of this team is subpar compared to other contending teams along with atheticism and b-ball IQ. Being small you need the speed.....

I could see a CP3 for Heyward swap, but I think the Rockets would want something extra. Kinda interesting, since Heyward could be a free agent after this year and CP3 is locked in for another 3 years.

More than likely, the trade would be Capela for Jaylen Brown and something else. I'm not convinced Brown is a player worthy of that kind of commitment, and I can't imagine Tatum is on the table.

cp for hayward for would be dumb. cp gives us an entirely different offense/scheme/tempo/style.

The other day I was wondering how Heyward ever even got a max deal. Good player, but there are many players with the same production for cheaper.

Pre injury in his last year in Utah he was looking really good and only 26 at the time. The 2 years before we’re pretty good too.

If he doesn’t get hurt I doubt there would have been any problem with the contract.

I'm seeing Hayward's name in thread titles a little too often lately for my taste.

Don't want. Do NOT want. The impact-to-salary ratio is terrible.

I'd give them CP3 for Hayward …. that's it. I think he'd fit well with Harden and be able to help facilitate when he was on the bench. Knock down shooter , great passer , decent rebounder / defender.

Can he be any worse than Cp3 in that aspect ?

I think he better compliments Harden ...

As hard as I've been on Paul, and I've been pretty tough on him, Paul has Hayward beat in pretty much every statistical category minus playoff free throw percentage and blocks (was too lazy to dig for a turnover comparison). I've always been in the "Hayward is overrated" camp. Paul may be a "has been" but Hayward is a "never was" in my opinion. Give me the "has been" lol.

Ummm. Paul can at least help out at playmaking, Hayward at his peak I would still b iffy and it's a big fat no after his injury. Maybe if the Celtics shell out a sht ton of usable asset, maybe.

For $40million I expect a lot more than a 2.8-1 assist to turnover ratio.

Other Point guards in that statistical category and their salary. - Regular Season.

    1 - Tyus Jones Minnesota Timberwolves PG 7.0 - $2,444,053
    2 Monte Morris Denver Nuggets PG 5.7 - $1,349,383
    .
    .
    .

    12 Patrick Beverley LA Clippers PG 3.5 - $5,027,027
    .
    .
    29 J.J. Barea Dallas Mavericks PG 2.9 - $3,710,850
    30 T.J. McConnell Philadelphia 76ers PG 2.9 - $1,600,520
31 Rajon Rondo Los Angeles Lakers PG 2.9 - $9,000,000
32 Elfrid Payton New Orleans Pelicans PG 2.9 - $3,000,000
    33 Tony Snell Milwaukee Bucks PG 2.8 - $10,807,143
    34 Chris Paul Houston Rockets PG 2.8 - $35,654,150
35 Patty Mills San Antonio Spurs PG 2.8 - $11,571,429
    37 Shelvin Mack Charlotte Hornets PG 2.8 - $1,512,601
    38 Tony Parker Charlotte Hornets PG 2.8 - $5,000,000
    39 Derrick Rose Minnesota Timberwolves PG 2.7 - $1,512,601
    41 Kris Dunn Chicago Bulls PG 2.7 - $4,221,000
    42 Matthew Dellavedova Cleveland Cavaliers PG 2.7 - $9,607,500

One of these is not like the others.

What's worse is that ratio fell to 1.62-1 in the playoffs.

If we are paying this guy for his playmaking ability …. then he's stealing money with that type of performance.

Even if Irving leaves, PG is not priority for Boston IMO - still have Smart & Rozier. I think Ainge covets Capela more than Paul.

If so, get 3rd team involved that needs upgrade to offense/SF spot. A team like Orlando which is desperate for more scoring plus a young starter at point guard.

That's a pretty strange way to look at it, imo. For one, not sure which list is correct, but ESPN lists CP at 3.11 in the regular season, #17.
    http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/assists/sort/assistTurnoverRatio/seasontype/2

    Right ahead of Kyle Lowry.

For two, there's a reason the list isn't exactly a who's who of all-nba guys. Better players have higher usage, take more risks, have more complex roles, etc.

Obviously CP3 is declining. Wish it wasn't the case, and wish we weren't paying him $40 million.

Agreed, if Irving bolts they could just resign Rozier and build around their young core. At that point the center would be the "weak" spot with Horford being too old for that project.

I did the math …. this one's correct for the season.

He's being paid for his "playmaking ability" …. that's been his forte since he entered the league.

We aint getting our money's worth and never will A) because he's significantly declined (hope he makes me eat crow if he stays) and B) because he'll never run the offense enough with Harden here to get any return on that $40m.

At this point , he's just a very expensive luxury …. that isn't worth the investment.

Yes. It was a classic DM move. Just pick up talent regardless of position. And to his credit, thats like 95% right. Health aside would have been 100% right maybe last year.

But now he’s at a position that isn’t needed, too old and too expensive.
