instead of building a team that can beat the warriors we should build a team that can beat Toronto, Milwaukee, and the Lakers and the new warriors. With the extension of Mike Dantoni we are keeping the same offense and offense is needs to slightly diversify and needs to include more ball movement. We also need to switch to a defense that can defend a ball movement heavy offense like the top teams have. This Toronto team is build exactly like the 2014 spurs. We need to use Harden wisely his last 4 years in his prime then also build a team those late spurs had with Duncan in his late 30s in which we had a great mix of young and veteran guys. Morey needs to have a great mix of young and veteran talent. That is the way to win THE GOAL SHOULD NOT BE TO ONLY BEAT THE WARRIORS.
I personally think you run harden as your shooting guard, and Paul as your point. You get you a player like Jimmy butler and maybe you trade for a big time center. If you go over the luxury tax, so well be it. Love and Butler seem to fit the bill tbh. If you have all your money tied in those 4, and then go out and draft some 2nd round rookies and get some vets to surround that team. Capela/Gordon/Tucker/All your future 1st can land them 2.
probably gonna just wait till end of the summer when the discounted buyout coaches come on the market
Toronto is an elite defensive team, they got like 3 guys who are at or previously at dpoty level. Coupled that with their coach and how they share the ball, they are just a solid and deep team. Meanwhile, we're extremely top heavy and you can even argue now that Kawhi is a better overall player than Harden. CP3 is old and doesn't have the same hustle as a Lowry. Ibaka actually shows up when it matters unlike Capela. They've got multiple guys who are a least the same level as a PJ Tucker. Gasol, Vanfleet, Siakam, Green. Hell, Jeremy Lin started for us and on that team he's like their Bobby Brown.
We actually beat the Raptors with our current set up, they don't like PnR and don't know how to defend them we don't beat the Bucks though, terrible match up for us. We don't beat the warriors either because they figured out how to completely nullify Capela
Butler & Davis are just 'wanna be' kind of star but has flat tires leading their own team (wave at Chicago and New Orleans) just saying.
Beating Toronto one game here and there during the regular season doesn’t mean we would be them in a 7 game series when they figure out how to take away the Rockets pick n roll. Look at the adjustments they made against GS. The big difference is Toronto has multiple bugs that can shoot from the outside, rebound, and defend. They actually make GS look small, unlike the Rockets that didn’t have the size to match up with guys like Iguadola, Livingston, Looney, and Green. We were beaten soundly on the boards by these guys, and had Cousins been available it would’ve been worse
Spank Capela and make him a man. We have a child that talks a lot and folds when it gets tough. No more babying him, he wrecked our season. Time to wreck his brain and make him a baller, not a man with baller money.
"We will get to pick the best of the free agents" - Morey The scrubbiest players are usually in that pool. The likes of James Ennis or Michael Carter Williams.....
Let's look at the Rockets last 3 summers (let me know if I missed something). If Morey can replicate the Summer of 2017 (Trade / MLE / Vet Min) moves then the team can get back on track. Rockets Summer 2016 -Cap Room: Ryan Anderson -Cap Room: Eric Gordon -Cap Room: Nene -Extension: James Harden extended Rockets Summer 2017 -Trade: Chris Paul -Full MLE: PJ Tucker -Vet Min: Luc Mbah a Moute -Re-Signed: Nene Rockets Summer 2018 -Vet Min: MCW -Vet Min: James Ennis -Vet Min: Carmelo Anthony -Trade: Brandon Knight -Trade: Marquese Chriss -T-MLE: {NO ONE} (a sliver used on Gary Clark & Isaiah Hartenstein for 3yr deals)
