Using current active players, assemble a championship quality starting five with no good 3pt shooters at all positions. Anyone shooting below 25% qualifies. Anyone shooting above 33% does NOT qualify. In between is at your discretion but lower the better.
Russell Westbrook(28%) Devin Booker(32%) Giannis Antetokounmpo(25%) Anthony Davis(33%) Joel Embiid(29%)
Alternatively, all under 25%: Ben Simmons (0.0%) DeMar DeRozan (16.7%) Giannis (24.9%) Cousins (25.6%) Adams or Drummond or Nurkic or Capela Edit: Oops Cousins was over 25% but whatever.
Name a team of 5 players that have shot 100% from 3 this season that would not win a championship. Here is mine: Davon Reed Eric Moreland Jordan Sibert Rawle Alkins Trevon Duval
Austin Rivers (.322) Brandon Knight (.156) Iman Shumpert (.282) Carmelo Anthony (.328) Marquese Chriss (.067)
I was thinking of Anthony Mason the other day - how he played (at times) as a SF who didn't shoot the 3. But could you find a way to be competitive without the 3, 4 or 5 shooting 3s? It sounds like blasphemy because the spacing is shot. But what would it take? Dominance on the boards, lock down defense, fast break heavy offense With lots of cutting and the ability to draw fouls in the congested lane? The two guards should probably be lights out from the 3 pt line. Would that be enough to get you to an eastern conference finals? I mean, At some point the pendulum has to swing back a bit, right?
We would need a Hakeem (or Shaq) to arrive. Hakeem had all 33% 3 point shooters surrounding him (except for Kenny) when he won his first championship. You put Hakeem on a team with those non-shooters mentioned above in other posts and they would beat GSW and probably 3 peat.
Omg. Get Marquese Chriss off my team!!! I don't want no scrubs. A scrub is a guy who can't get no love from me.
