Sean Pendergast retweeted something about Roby passing long term deals and said well it worked out for Mathieu to take the one year and get paid basically. Honey Badger responded with “ Gotta sign him during next season, can’t just lose players because you won’t extend during season.. most players will test market. just a thought.”
wow, that just says it all. I am gonna continue to give our GM the benefit of the doubt. I like what he did in the draft last year, but so far i think his FA signings the last two off-seasons have sucked. Fulton is trash; Colvin has been a huge disappointment; Henderson didn't play, and rather than committing to the honey badger last year or during the season, we lost him. Where is the focus on o-line. where is the marquee starting corner we can at least feel good about? We lost our best two players in the secondary and we have replaced them with down-grades. wtf?
I'll wait to panic until we complete the off-season. I'm much more comfortable signing Roby (although I wish it was 2-years) than say Verrett who is more like Mr. Glass than an NFL CB.
I always get a kick out of reading the old combine/draft pages for FA's especially for guys who didn't quite live up to billing. Here's Roby: http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/bradley-roby?id=2543505 4.39 40 isn't shabby but who knows how much is left after however many years. Other numbers were solid to good. Huge hand for being 5'11". When you look at all the CBs you are salivating over for this draft, go back and compare to what people were saying about Roby. That is a pretty favorable scouting report. In football as life, things don't always quite work out as hoped.
CBs not on rookie contracts with less average annual salary than Roby: Talib 9.5 Sherman 9 Joe Haden 9 Prince 9 Chris Harris 8.5 Desir 7.5
