I disagree. I think he's one of the best safeties in the league. Some of your coworkers aren't too bright.
Last year was KJax’s full year at safety and he still played quite a bit at CB due to injury. His PD should be a lot higher than HB and Gipson.
He can’t cover in the open field. He’s a box safety that gets lost in coverage. He had one year in which he played decently as an extra linebacker the majority of the time, but he’s a massive coverage liability. He’s not worth 14 mil a year that’s for sure
If its 3 yrs for $22 million as reported, in this safety market, it's a great great move. I just want to see them spend in other areas. O-line... o-line... o-line. I know its such a huge need league-wide that there aren't tons of free agents and those that are there seem to be "overpaid"... but this won't change magically. I get the idea of using the draft, especially to the extent with NFL offenses slowly looking more and more like college offenses, you might prioritize different strengths in your o-line... but you have to be REALLY good at drafting.
Remember a few years ago when everybody was screaming because Rick Smith had put us in salary cap hell. Maybe Gaine is just trying to spend the money responsibly which could mean we spend some this year and some next. I'm impatient as well and hope we make a splash somehow at CB and/or OL, but we shouldn't overspend on the likes of HB and Jackson because that more than anything keeps you in medioacrity.
Could be true...Could be wasting another year of Watson on his rookie contract. I'm still waiting and being patient. Who are big free agents so far in 2020?
I'm admittedly a football novice in terms of evaluating player talent but which ELITE free agent safety should the Texans have spent money on? Maybe just because you have cap room you don't have to overpay for just good-very good players?
They didn't need free safety. They have solid ones in Hal and Reid. What they need was to keep Mathieu, Kareem, or get another strong safety.
