No solution out there will overcome the unsustainable growth we are a part of. We have to find comprehensive ways to modulate expansion, and that can only be done with redefining the way we look at "economics" and "success".

Not surprising no one has the insight to discuss this

But a trashy quote from AOC or Trump will get 25 pages

This right here is real news

The only bit of real news on page 1

They want us to eat bugs or become vegans. Let the world burn if we can't have steaks.

More to do with how we raise meat - sustainable vs unsustainable agriculture. Millions of acres of rainforest are being cleared for feedlot meat. Comes down to consumption, meat has to be regulated in a way it shouldn't be a daily part of the meat eaters diet.

I eat chicken, lamb etc. from sustainable sources, but not on a daily basis. A premium should be paid as a result, you can get enough protein from grains and beans.

With manufacturing and cargo, all comes down to demand. No amount of innovation will solve this.

I'll tell you what is sustainable, and that is my insatiable appetite for meat. I do not care if the earth is warmer by 1 degree centigrade in the year 2150 as a result.

Serious question: if you take meat off the table, what are the impacts of replacing the protein with other options?

Seems like we hear that our oceans are already being overfished with long-haul nets, etc.
I presume, but don't know, that to make up the deficiency with grains and beans might require add'l fertilizer and would that compound the problem?

Leaving human nature aside and the minimal likelihood that our populace would accept the dietary change, what are the costs on the other side?

Who said anything about taking meat off the table?

It's about raising awareness as to what is healthy and not healthy, especially with huge demand to come from this entering the middle class in China/India/Africa due to once again... short sighted economic practices and

This is about sustainable vs unsustainable (factory / feedlot farming) ways to raise animals. WIth sustainable yes, fewer animals will be raised but they will be healthy for you and it's an indication that you need eat less of it, but enjoy it more

There could be a plague or massive climate event that wipes out a good deal of people due to the animals kept in these conditions, then yeah, I think larger amounts of the populace will accept these dietary changes.

As far as protein - the studies have already been done and we've seen the same results over centuries. Grain and beans contain all the amino acids we need, and can be farmed far more intensively than meat... without chemicals as well. Output wise it's 400x per 100 acres vs 20x per 100 acres. Insects are only coming into the equation because of population explosions in third world areas .. I would much rather have navy bean soup. You're getting into Chinese eating their dogs and cats territory.

I'll tell you who doesn't care, everyone relevant, myself, and the Earth.
You will be swatted aside by disease and poor health.

disease and poor health from eating meat? you ever seen a vegan? they don't exactly look healthy. Humans have been mainly eating meat for tens of thousands of years. its what they are designed to eat. Pre-historic man had pretty much no heart disease btw.

Homo sapiens, Neanderthals and other recent human relatives may have begun hunting large mammal species down to size — by way of extinction — at least 90,000 years earlier than previously thought, says a new study published in the journal Science.

But by all means wait for these meat-eaters who have existed forever to die off to poor health.

Humans are designed to be pretty adaptable. That is why we have survived and thrived for thousands of years.

May your prediction be as accurate as those of the hysteria-laden climate change lunatic fringe.

More pointless arguments. People who do not eat right, meat or vegan, are going to be malnourished.
People who eat industrially sourced meat every day are going to have a high chance of cancer, illness and chronic disease. Why do you think America is so unhealthy and fat?
Pre historic man did not eat feedlot meat (@Air Langhi).
They were highly active and had absolutely nothing in common with the lifestyles or meat sources of today.
You would be healthier eating a prehistoric life of only eating meat you can catch in the wild, then sitting on your ass and having what qualifies as meat today delivered to your hands.
Try to understand this before talking out of your ...

Difference between refined carbs and carbs from healthy sources.
Difference between refined sugar and sugar from fruits.
Difference between eating white refined bread and whole wheat bread.
Difference between pasture roaming chickens and feedlot chicken.

Do you see a trend? The health crises can easily be solved, from diabetes to cancer, if people understood this.
