Any thoughts on how this will affect home values in the area? I have a house in Timbergrove (Ella and 18th ish, 2.5mi away). I would imagine the area around the station would grow for businesses, but not sure how it will affect my home's value/

My concern about this train is its extremely long payback... we're talking decades. By the time this rolls out, I'm hopeful that cars will be equipped with level 4 or 5 autonomy, or at least shortly after. If I had a choice between arriving in DFW 2 hours early or relaxing as my car drives me along 45, I'd probably pick my car.

My biggest concern is it ends up being like the SSC in Waxahachie. :(

The cost for this thing had doubled from something like $30-$40 billion to almost $80 billion. People had expected this to die for a while, I think.

Howdy neighbor. I would imagine it would do nothing but help. I don't see a lot of negative externality, especially if it's all on the west side of 610.

Odd that no one has mentioned that perhaps the best part of taking the train as opposed to driving is not having to worry about cops along I45.

    those cops suck!

Thanks for the update. Sounds like it's going to be a long process, with the rail project kind of up in the air while they attempt to make a path through the legalities involved. Heck, if they can't survey the land, they can't be sure just where it will be built. While I don't blame landowners for not wanting it built on or near their property, imminent domain has been a tool for rail to be built since like forever, more or less.

Since I live in Austin, I won't see high speed rail any time soon, and may not live long enough to see it reach Austin with connections to SA, Houston, and Dallas, since at this rate, it'll take a couple of decades, which means it will be more expensive to build. It should have been constructed long ago. France has high speed rail with dedicated tracks that crisscross the country, which is about the same size as Texas. I've ridden them there and elsewhere numerous times, and it's wonderful. What a pity. My state, so advanced in some areas, might as well be in the 19th century when it comes to passenger rail.

If you want to keep up, here's the "official" site (the news and whatnot will all be slanted toward "pro-rail", but still...) : https://www.texascentral.com/

My guess is the Earth Quest Adventure Park, resurrected from the dead. High speed rail? It's just trying to live. My beloved state seems intent on going backward instead of forward when it comes to moving people quickly around a state as large as France. Why have a modern transportation system connecting the major cities of Texas when you can simply pour more concrete for freeways that will have more traffic than they were designed for before they are completed?

That we have yet to build high speed rail after decades of talking about it is a disgrace, in my opinion. Some major infrastructure projects require the participation of the government, state as well as federal. They require (gasp!) taxes in order to pay for it, state as well as federal. So we have nothing but crickets chirping. Groovy.

    Mhmm.

(Ironic that most articles are from largely liberal media)
