Sure it matters! Whether or not it’s a big time award. Dude fought back from a slew of injuries. Much credit. So it’s not an Oscar, who cares.
You know we're really blessed sports fans to have some of the greatest modern era players on our teams--Watt, Altuve and Harden. Congrats to JJ for one helluva comeback!
Apparently the last 3 times they gave him DPOY, the NFL followed suit. Grant it those were no brainer years though.
Aaron Donald 41 Tackles, 20.5 sacks, 4 Forced Fumbles, 2 Fumble Recoveries, 1 PDef Khalil Mack 47 Tackles, 12.5 Sacks, 6 Forced Fumbles, 4 PDef, INT JJ Watt 47 Tackles, 16 sacks, 7 Forced Fumbles, 4 PDef I want JJ to get NFL Defensive Player of the Year but Aaron Donald just had a fantastic year. The Rams did have a stacked defense though.
Aren't you forgetting... Jadeveon Clowney 38 Tackles, 9 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble, 3 Fumble Recoveries, 1 PDef, 1 TD : ) JJ was awesome this year but Donald was pretty ridiculous. He also had 41 QB hits, Mack and Watt had 43 combined. That's nuts.
This award is for AFC (not NFL), Donald won for NFC. The NFL will still be following suit if they gave it to Aaron Donald
As an Aggie, I'm sad Von Miller will never get a chance to win any sort of DPoY accolade, besides his defensive RotY award. Just so happens he was in the same draft year with Watt, has to now deal with Watt (still) and Donald, and will mostly likely have to deal with Khalil Mack and Darius Leonard for the foreseeable future.
Those are the numbers Mack finished the year with...? He might be the most overrated/overhyped/overpaid player since ever.
Not to mention, I think he did all that in like the first 6 games or something and they were all reaming Gruden (still a dumb move by him) but Mack definitely slowed down as the season wore on.
Yup, just like the one year he was nominated for defensive player of the year(or did he win? I forget) he had 10 total sacks with 5 coming in one game and they overhyped him then as well. I was just really shocked those were the numbers he finished with since he got off to such a crazy start.
No way Watt wins it with Donald's stats and the Rams' success, and in my opinion rightfully so. I do think that some voters will hedge and vote JJ Comeback Player (though Luck likely wins that) and feel that they can vote Donald foe DPoY with a clean conscience
Yep. MVP, previous runner up MVP, previous runner up MVP if NFL allowed defensive players to win MVP. Runner up for MVP. '94 also not a bad year for Houston MVPs.
