Thanks for this post. I don't mean to dismiss the problems of the government. Sometimes good times economically mask more fundamental problems Obviously instability is major problem so maybe i would be more accurate in saying the collapse of oil prices has revealed structural problems in the government
After spreading democracy in Afghanistan/Iraq, it might be a good idea to let this country go off leash . The problem with this place is corruption, ranked at the bottom ,168th when benched against some other 176 countries . It would be wiser to divert this passionate humanitarian energy towards Mexico
I think we should support Maduro, I mean, he hasn't let the entire country starve to death yet. That's the standard for success when it comes to socialist countries.
Not supporting Maduro doesn't mean we automatically should support the US intervening in overthrowing their government. And nobody wants a system like Venezuela, one of the dumbest strawman's used. The democratic socialist on left in America like Bernie want a system similar to... Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Japan, Australia, Canada, Finland, Denmark ... A capitalist system with heavy social programs to take care of its people.
The Venezuelans are starving, they have little hope and their outlets to the outside world have been more and more limited by Maduro. Chavez and Maduro failed, its over and it really isn’t even debatable. Let it go. The right wing government the US backs will likely fail as well after they oppress the vast poor and set up their corrupt oligarchy. Rinse and repeat...
Honestly we need to stay out of it. Intervention in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria all were massive failures. If we put troops on the ground then we better set up a permanent presence and draw up their Constitution etc. Bombing, attacking on the ground or financial pressure/support and then pulling out is a waste of time.. we go in, we invest in the nation and we stay in.
government employees are starving. People at the south border are starving. Now let's spend $20M to spread democracy...which MAGA do not have...
Socialism is where the very few that install the government steals all the wealth from the people. Easy way to make quick $$$.
Yeah, and unrestricted capitalism is when the very few at the top buy all the politicians to control the country and funnel all the wealth to themselves. Like the USA. The best systems shown to date, are regulated capitalist systems with heavy doses of socialist programs. It's a mix.
No... nobody has ever said Venezuela. The only people who ever bring up Venezuela are people who argue against implementing socialist programs into our current capitalist system (the path we need to take). Venezuela is only used as a damn strawman.
One thing... I almost agree with you except... Except no. People bring up Venezuela to demonstrate how socialism is a failed political philosophy. You are making a strawman by saying people ONLY use it to argue against social programs. Not true.
