He needs to be brought back, but more importantly he needs to be a safety only. He's not a CB.

Not necessary replace him, but spend the money he wants to improve the whole team. Up grade two maybe three different positions rather than one.

Texans always keep their stars, even though it's not a good use of resources.

Clowney is a great player, but not a game changer. Need to invest some money in competent lineman or defensive backs.

This. We have far too many areas of needs and while a good D line/pass rush is still viable, it seems ours is neutralized too often by quick passes.

Let some other team throw 15M at him.

I'm not into spending that kind of money on above average players

I was hoping for watt and clowney to kill it this year but that was really the case. Clowney seems to only play well when watt is out and it may be because of the way the DC uses him when watt is in but I expected more from our line. I think we can get the same production with a cheaper replacement for him or watt really.

Clowney was a complete zero in the biggest game of his life. That, combined with his injury history, should prevent the Texans from offering him big money long-term. I say just tag him and dare him to skip game checks.

15M? He was one of the better defenders in the NFL this past season, he's getting at least 20 mil a season from somebody....most likely the Texans given that they'll have potentially 100 million to spend this off-season.

And what happens if JJ goes down again? You have NOTHING at pass rusher.

I’m not understanding the whole don’t pay Clowney argument.

    According to spotrac:
    1. Released Demaryius Thomas
      (Saved: $14,000,000)
    2. Released Kevin Johnson
      (Saved: $9,069,000)
    3. Released Senio Kelemete
      (Saved: $2,500,000)
That leaves the Texans with $93.5 million under the cap. Is it not better to keep Clowney than overpay for the next Nate Solder or Malcolm Butler? Free agency in the NFL is very much hit or miss.

Avoid looking for the Solders and Butlers. Find the gems in the next tier. We didn't go for Nnamdi years ago, and instead went for JJo. Let everyone else court whoever was the star FA tackle and signed Wade Smith instead.

I'm not a believer in creating holes if it's not necessary. I'd re-sign Clowney, that's what the cap space is for. Texans need to do what they can while Watson is under his rookie contract.
