I thought this was the year. They were below 500. Now they are back. When will this team be bad. Pop needs to retire or something. It doesn't seem fair.
A team with derozan and aldridge isn't exactly a duo that's going to be one of the bottom feeders of the league. not to mention pop as the coach
They go as Pop goes. So when Pop eventually goes, Spurs will go. Although they were the "losers" of the Derozan-Kawhi swap, it wasn't as lopsided as these deals tend to be (see: Harden-to-Rockets trade, way back when). They got a great offensive player, a developing young big and a 1st round pick, which is pretty darn good. They just needed to figure out the dynamics of that team, which they seem to have done, as shown in the OKC game last night. Although Derozan had a bad night while LMA had his career best, the final shots of regulation and the first OT still went to Derozan. They're one player away (solid wing or solid big) from seriously contending for the title.
maybe never, lol....there's so much talent constantly coming into the NBA, they'll never be short of players..and they play team ball. i'm pretty sure Pops sucessor is going to do the same thing, play team ball....not to mention those young dudes who got injored this year...they're like the jazz. this constant nagging threat that won't go away. they keep reinventing themselves...
Actually, I watched the game last night and felt they really lost that "team ball" approach they typically have. Maybe it was just one game, but they lacked ball movement. Derrick White and Aldridge were just awesome. Derozan still not ready for those big moments lol
The Spurs are the Steelers of the NBA. Culture before talent, and it all works out in the end for them.
its fair ... they are simply playing smart and that is something any team can do...Harden and rockets can learn many things from Spurs...use your brain NBA!
Nah bro, Pop is one of a kind he can mix GM and coaching roles along with his buddy RC Buford allowing him to have best of both worlds. Lots of people have come out of the Spurs system like Mike Brown but they couldn't replicate Spurs success. And while Pops coaching has been great, their success has always been predicated by their amazing draft and trade decisions. That's why the most important factor in NBA success will always be the GM. He can get you the best players and hire the best coaches but if the GM is incompetent then the goat coach will get fired and the goat player will leave. Pops is old though and with his wife dead (rip) he might not have the same fire and passion as before. Like Belichick in Boston it will be an end of an era every soon and I expect Spurs to decline shortly after like Apple did when Jobs died.
i'm hoping that you are right. i would have though the same about the jazz after sloan, but somehow they keep lingering around.
There is an annual thread since around the turn of the century about how the Spurs are finally getting old and falling out of contention. LOL.
personally i would have liked it...it would be a great lesson for harden... harden needs to learn to play it smart..you gotta be smart , talent alone would not get you far...
