Saw it last night without 3D (our local Alamo Drafthouse rarely show 3D films for some reason) and, oddly enough, liked this one better than the first one. Go figure. Great special effects, confusing plot, but less confusing than the first one, imo. It's a prequel to the Harry Potter films, taking place in the 1920's. Freaky. I like freaky. I haven't read the novels, either. Couldn't get past the first couple of chapters of book one, and I'm a huge SF/fantasy fan. My kids and my significant other tell me that I should give the books another go. Maybe some day. We have all of them. The kids grew up and are on their on, but the Potter's are still on a bookshelf at home. 6/10
Couldn't agree more. There was not so much blood as there was hyperbolic hamming for awards. MILKSHAKE!!! no thanks.
a quiet place. 8/10. I redirect you to the , sounds other people make that annoy you thread. I wouldn't make it 10 minutes co-living with these bad aliens.
I was forced to watch Love Actually, and the movie felt pushed, but I was amazed that the cast runs almost 20 deep with actors who have carried movies. But it was too much. That little kid seems to turn up everywhere for some reason in film. 5/10
Venom - 7/10. It was alright. I am not sure if it will sequel worthy. Spoiler Alien had a sense of humor, ftw.
Creed 2: 7/10. A worthy sequel to the first Creed albeit missing Ryan Coogler's touch. I dock a point for the training montage. It felt very forced (and that's saying something by Rocky standards) and the idea of a secret desert boxing gym for guys that are too hard for conventional gyms was silly. The fights were very well done and the Dragos were interesting characters.
From Here to Eternity Burt Lancaster and Montgomery Clift were excellent, can't figure out how Frank Sinatra won a Supporting Actor Oscar for this role. Donna Reed was great, Earnest Borgnine was great. Solid 50's movie, but the book (same guy who wrote The Thin Red Line, better book better movie) is naturally superior.
I waited 2 hours for Paul Dano's character to meet his maker, and the milkshake/drainage scene followed by him getting beaten to death with a bowling pin kind of? made it all worthwhile.
Crazy Rich Asians- 5.9/10. I don't want to go all Pgabriel with black panther but I just don't see how this movie was ground breaking that had everyone from Jeremy Lin to Lin Mandela talking about it. It's basically a Telenovela. rich guy that appears to be normal happens to have an Amancio Ortega amount of cash and is in love with a cute girl that doesn't meet up to standards. Did I laugh? only in the scenes of the lead's side kick. She was funny.
The Last Dragon - 10/10 DeBarge made ONE music video and it was for this movie. Vanity is so fine. It's amazing Taimak didn't blow up after this movie. He should have been a star. It's on Netflix right now. Reach the final level! Get the Glow!
Primary Colors. My wife has been listening to the Slow Burn podcast on the Clinton impeachment, so was in the mood to see this movie which she'd never seen. Holds up pretty well, not the greatest movie ever, I'd give it a 6.5/10
