https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/23/politics/nra-political-money-clout/index.html Tey spend all day talking about it. Unfortunately talk has never done anything in politics - that relies on money. Isn't Oprah worth 3 billion? Can't she and other liberal elites send a few mil each to gun control each year and easily buy out the necessary politicians? It is interesting to note how stingy liberals are considering issues that matter.
Why don't you just shut the **** up about it if you can't even have a civil conversation regarding it.
That's what's wrong with both sides, it's all about money and no common sense. When you can't be bought anymore like McCain on his deathbed when he voted against repelling Obamacare, then you can make correct decisions based on your constituents and conscience not money.
Who exactly are you talking to? I am an advocate for gun control and very, very strict mental health screening, particularly for those who have handled weapons in the past. However, you can clearly see liberals are not putting their money where their mouth is. It is weird you celebrate celebrities so much, many of them with no talent, yet are too scared to ask them to donate their money to a real cause instead of waste it.
Open secrets is your friend. https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/totals.php?id=d000000082&cycle=2014 The NRA is giving close to 100% of all contributions to Republicans. You don't think the issue might be the NRA spending million dollars a year buying off politicians? If you sincerely care about gun control, maybe vote in politicians who are not paid off by the NRA? But somehow its the Democrats fault because celebrities don't pay enough money to incentivize the already paid off Republicans... right...... It also appears that you think every celebrity in America is a liberal and that there are no rich conservatives who care about gun control. The celebrity you proposed to do something about it in your stupid response in the other thread was Kanye West who is definitely not a liberal nor in favor of gun control. FAIL. I hope for your sake you were drunk when you thought of this bright idea or just trolling a basketball forum. There is no way anyone can genuinely be this stupid.
Oprah should just start buying guns for African Americans, see how fast gun control jumps up as a topic for Trumpers. DD
A whole lot of aggressive rage in this post agreeing with me. Politics IS money, the NRA buys off politicians like Big Pharma, Oil and Gas, Media, Industrial Agro etc. do. There are no exceptions, right or left. In this case the money isn't that much, $11 million a year. What better cause to stem the tide than force celebs to donate their money to a good cause or threaten to boycott them? You can even go after the "evil white man" like George Soros. If you care about school shootings, put your money where your mouth is. But the liberal MO is to just show everyone how outraged they are and go down the same dead end road time and time again. If the lib elites would pool together and donate $30 mil a year to gun control and tougher screening, pennies to their collective wealth, it would be done in a year with no house or congress able to stop it.
I’m not sure how much help money would do for the anti-gun or gun-control side. I suspect huge sums of money is more impactful in bolstering the side that doesn’t already have the benefit of facts/reason. When good arguments aren’t available, you have to buy people off to get their loyalty. Are you suggesting they try to outbid the NRA for more Republican support?
Ban on semi-auto's Mental health history cannot buy guns Tech groups to disable internet transactions Reasonable measure any gun control lobbyist can promote. Politicians go where the money is and when this becomes a profitable issue, everyone outside of "southern georgian values" will swing towards this. You also see how direct contributions with good marketing campaigns result in more votes , look at Beto. This is something that can be done with money because those who want a guns for all environment do not outnumber or outpower the rest, they just donate more of their money to keep politicians and lobbyists bought off.
Just to be clear, you are saying that $30,000,000 to lobbyists would get that done? And, how long would that take? For example, Oprah reaches in her purse and hands $30,000,000 to the top gun control lobby firm in the world on January 1, 2019. When would your 3 suggested laws get enacted?
Just so I am clear You are being a proponent of the further corruption of the political system by suggesting that buying politicians should be the norm? Rocket River
Why don't gun nutters contribute to all the costs of their foolishness. Funerals, lost wages and productivity, medical expenses etc.?
You don't seem to be understanding. Who would the money be going to? Democrats are already emphatically against the current gun laws. The only people who are influenced in any way by the NRA are the republicans. They are already paid off. Why not just vote out the current republicans and not pay anything? Are you suggesting that liberals pay conservative politicians double in order to change their minds? Even if they did change their minds the NRA would obviously back out so you would have to pay each republican politician in excess of 200% off what they are currently paid off to even have a shot at buying them. Of the examples you gave, for the last decade Republicans received close to 90% of all contributions from oil and gas, 70% of all Industrial Agro, they historically always have led in pharma investments. When you look at media, take a look at how much Fox news contributes to republican politicians on their own. Instead of acknowledging that the problem might be that we pay off politicians in this country in exchange for ideology in the first place and that we could simply vote them out, you compound the issue by asking democrats to pay in excess of 200% to change paid off republicans minds about all of these issues. And somehow the liberals are to blame. What kind of world do you want to live in, its really up to you. https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/totals.php?cycle=2018&ind=E01 https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/totals.php?cycle=2018&ind=A https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/totals.php?cycle=2018&ind=H04
Here's your money: $50,000,000: https://philanthropynewsdigest.org/news/bloomberg-to-launch-50-million-gun-control-initiative $20,000,000: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...to-democratic-senate-candidates-idUSKCN1MC2XD 75,000 volunteers and millions in small money: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/02/22/thousands-help-mike-bloomberg-and-everytown-fight-gun-violence.html On a side note, why are you wanting to "force" anyone to donate money something?
Why are you posting a gun control article from 2014? The stats from 2015-2018 clearly show who dominates with actual money given to the NRA vs gun control. The point is simple. Money runs politics, politics is lobbying, if you really cared, you'd put your money where your mouth is. This isn't a case of puting a suitcase of cash in someone's trunk. You're going about legal channels to bring about a necessary change. If you've gone down the same road year after year for a decade, what have you got to lose? Do something useful with your $.
Libs and the donors are probably realistic about simply trying to outspend the NRA. Probably consider donating to candidates who aren’t bought by the gun lobby the better investment. At least that’s how I donate.
