This won't be a discussion about the defense, but the offense.

Games with less than 100 points in the Houston Rockets MDA era:
    2018-19 (10 games coached): 5
    2017-18 (82 games coached): 8
    2016-17 (82 games coached): 5

Not much to talk about, but it is very concerning. I think Chris Paul and Eric Gordon are the two major "culprits." Gordon needs to come back quick, and play well when he does. Chris Paul has so bad that the thought "oh crap. It's because he's old" has crept into my mind.

Tonight Chris Webber shared a stat about our bench scoring, which I can't remember now, but it wasn't good. Something about being bottom 3rd of the league. My brain is doing its best to delete what I just witnessed.

Coming in to the season we believed that our second unit with Gordon and Melo was supposed to be where we padded our leads.

    That's gone well.

Offensive gurus Bob O'Brien & Bob D'Antoni need to hire offensive coordinators. @Carl Herrera

    Our offense has been bad.

    Our efficiency has been awful.

    Our rebounding is atrocious.

I mean, MDA cant go out and make people miss shots. I dont know what you want tbh. You think Brad Stevens is good right? Well look at the Celtics Offense.

We knew the defense would be terrible. Turns out the offense sucks too.

When we were giving him 40 mil, I was given crap for saying he's too old to be given that much money. Im actually starting to get tired of being right.

PJ Tucker as a starting PF - OK
PJ Tucker as a starting SF - OK
PJ Forward as a bench swiss army knife - Legendary
    Clint as a starting C - good
[Insert young scrub player] as bench C when Clint sits - total garbage

We need an upgrade to our PF/C rotation in the absolute worst way. It will have so many benefits, just rattling them off:
    • Freeing PJ up to be his best self, roaming
    • Sustaining at least one rebounder on the floor at all times
    • Improving the defense by limiting opposing offensive rebounds
    • Improving team energy by limiting opposing offensive rebounds
    • Giving the team the "vertical spacing" that D'Antoni loves
    • Handling teams with multiple capable big-men when Clint is nullified
    • Getting offensive rebounds from our many, many missed 3-pointers
    • Forcing the other team to box out multiple people instead of just leaking out favorable numbers on fast breaks
Man. We can pine for Butler so much but the roster imbalance shows in everything that happens during these games. It doesn't seem intuitive that a PF/C will boost your scoring by 20 points in today's NBA, but there are so many small rebounding plays that accumulate into a huge game script.

We have a team that relies on 3pt shooting, who are inefficient at 3pt shooting.

I wasn't knocking MDA if this post was directed to me. Just comparing how bad the Rockets are this season offensively compared to the last two seasons. 5 in 10 games versus 13 in 164... The only reliable offensive player the Rockets have is James Harden. It's very hard to watch.

For anyone thinking I'm knocking MDA, I'm not. I just referenced the MDA Rockets era to reference how good offensively we used to be before this season. This is extremely uncanny.

No worries, not referring to you at all. Referring to @kjayp who I like, but who is always critical of MDA.

idk... maybe we actually run a play.... not just let guys chuck it up from 3 feet back of the 3 pt line... and hope for the best...

feed Capela until it stops working (8/12)
post up Melo so he gets an easy bucket or two to get him in a rhythm...

Basically, MDA is stubborn... 'we're gonna play our game...' - even if its not working...
When you're shooting 26% from 3pt land... maybe you take some shorter shots until you find your stroke again... not continue to shoot over 50% of your shots from distance...

The man refuses to adjust anything...
we shoot 3's - so we're gonna keep shooting them even if we cant hit the broadside of a barn and shoot ourselves right outta the game...
we switch everything on defense - even if it means Adams is feeding on our smaller guys while Clint cant keep up with speedsters...

Having a game plan is great - but you gotta make adjustments based on what the defense is giving you and how the game is unfolding...

Start Melo and the case will be closed. Always put the best players on the court together. Then upgrade Tucker. And solidified.

Look, if you got guys bricking Open 3s, its a problem with personnel. If we change it to mid range, its just bricking a bad shot. I would like to see CP take more though.

Do you really think changing the scheme is gonna take us anywhere right now, especially mid season. Our personnel are failing us right now. Our top 10 players Paul and Harden...well, havent been up to snuff, and our role players(sans PJ) cannot hit any shots so they have no room to operate. I dont know what coaching change can fix this tbh.
