CP3 Harden Ennis PJ Capela Melo - obvious Gordon - same MCW - has shown enough Nene - new bigs have not shown enough Gerald - disappointing, but might get some minutes I think we’ll go 9 deep max with GG playing here and there.
How is GG ahead? MCW been dishing, getting rebounds, slashing, active, rubbing and actually scoring as well as providing defense. He can run the show with EG, take turns while Melo / PJ / Ennis can get shots. GG is streaky and defense is not good, so I’d be surprised other than loyalty of a guy who contributed in a WCF series over fresh meat, but play this preseason MCW is definitely ahead and better.
bc mcw was basically playing to make the team not GG spot in the rotation. not expecting to see mcw other than blowouts or injuries. GG has already noted his role would expand per coach on a more consistent basis, which was a big reason why he decided to return to houston. he'll definitely be part of the rotation
CP3 Harden/Gordon Ennis/MCW Tucker/Melo Capela/committee I think Rockets see MCW less as a fourth guard and more as a wing who can handle. He will be the Luc Mbah a Moute replacement. Brandon Knight may get fourth guard minutes if he proves healthy. Capela’s backup will be Nene, but Rockets will use Tucker, Melo under some circumstances. They will probably try Hartenstein and Chriss at certain points but I don’t think either will probe reliable to keep the job. I also wouldn’t be shocked if Gary Clark pushes his way into rotation. Green only gets minutes in case of injury.
right now its looking like: capela (28) - nene/hartenstein (10) tucker (30) - melo (28) gordon (32) - ennis (24) harden (36) - MCW (20) cp3 (32)
Hopefully Chris / Eric James / MCW Ennis / green Pj / Melo Clint / hartenstein With A few extra guys on hand to get minutes in blowouts . I hope we go at least 10 deep this year . No reason not to with our depth and goal of a championship. Should see plenty of rest management games for CP , I'd like to see James / Eric / and PJ all get a rest game or two here or there as well . Especially once knight comes back we should have the "too many good players" problem ... which isn't a problem if you are a good manager .
PG: Paul/Knight SG: Harden/Gordon/Green SF: Ennis/MCW/Clark PF: Tucker/Melo C: Capela/Nene/Hartenstein
If we got Butler for Nene and EG: PG: Paul/Knight SG: Harden/Green SF: Butler/Ennis/MCW PF: Tucker/Melo/Clark C: Capela/Hartenstein
Why do you people put so many names into Mike Dan Tony's Six Man Rotation? Don't you people know how to count?
Because he can shoot and MCW can't. I don't know if you've noticed but we play in a system that requires our players to launch a ton of 3s. CP3 and Harden will get all 48mins at PG. I'll be surprised if Dan Tony messes with what was a winning formula last year. I think mcw won't play unless there's an injury.
man i want some minutes reserved for Gary Clark i dont care if its a 5 minutes a game... he s a baller
In terms of how long each player will spend at each position, here's how he sees it imo: Capela, Tucker, Ennis, Green, Melo set picks or get open in the corner. Harden, Paul, Gordon and Melo are your point men (in that order). If someone better than you is on the floor, then set a pick and/or get open.
No, MCW’s role is to show he can play over other guards i.e. Gordon, GG, Knight. Rockets used GG as a 9-10th man last year. MCW has shown he can hustle like GG and in most areas more superior aside from shooting so it’s definitely not a foregone conclusion that GG gets regular minutes or even an expanded role.
This would be my pick. Melo fits in much better with the starters than I initially thought. As long as he can handled being switched onto wing players, I like Melo at the 4 with the starters.
CP3 Harden Gordon Tucker Capela Melo Ennis MCW Green Brandon Knight competes with MCW and Green for the 8th and 9th spots in the rotation. All three likely get minutes over the course of the season as CP and others take games off for (hopefully) minor injuries. Nene and Hartenstein swap 10th-man minutes depending on the game.
