I don't believe that at all. That kind of thing is not retirement worthy, he could have taken a break or just resigned. Could be a very very ill family member. But barring that, it's a problem with MDA or a lack of belief in the possibility of this being a top 10 defensive team.

There's no chance we switch schemes btw. If Woj knows what he's talking about, he said the Rockets will split the duties between MDA and Rogers because it's so close to the season. Woj clearly gets direct communication from Morey so there's weight to that.

Sorry to break this to you, but if he hasn’t shown what he has on D until now, then it’s not ever going to happen. We are officially screwed!

I guess this was why Matty B was called up from RGV. I think the organization knew Jeff was planning on retiring for a while.

Matt is an offense guy, I think they might have someone else in mind

Double the offense, half the defense.

Wow. This is definitely unexpected and disconcerting. What Bzdelik did with our defense was incredible. Big shoes to fill. Also, I had no idea he was already 65.

Maybe he felt the pay he was getting wasn't worth the value he was adding and the time he was putting into the team.

Maybe he was super angry about how terrible the Rockets practice facility is.

Weird. Reminds me of Les’ sudden sell of the team.

MDA is 67 and does not seem to be retiring or slowing down.

Losing the architect of our defense, AKA the main reason why we almost beat the Golden State Warriors, isn't a disastrous loss?

    Well...if you say so!

Well it makes sense. There are no defensive specialists on the team. He's 65, he's not about to teach old dogs new trick nor to train new players how to play D.

huge loss. the subtraction of Luc and Ariza, along with the addition of Melo and Knight really magnifies the defensive drop-off. I was really hoping Jeff B would mitigate some of the inevitable defensive back-sliding. This has me very very nervous. I really don't see how someone can say (with a straight face) that we are a better team this year than last year. Huge loss!

Wants that ring badly. It’s not everyday you get to coach a team with this kind of talent. Would do wonders for the D’Antoni legacy. Would mean no more can’t win it all with his system garbage.

We'll still have an elite defense due to the carry over from most of the team being retained. Sort of like when JVG left and we still had great defense under Adelman. We'll miss BzD in the playoffs though.
