Been waiting for an Ingram coming out party but disappeared in both of the 2nd halves, at least some explanation for the last game. No idea what to think of this game, but Herman needs this win bad. A lot of momentum flowing to College Station lately.
How bad does he need it? I think Texas is used to 7 win seasons now. They can tear down the lockers again next year with all the money they have. They'll be fine.
We need to give him time, but I agree, we need a signature win to show that we are going in the right direction We should at least get to the level his UH teams were in execution and intensity
That would be quite an accomplishment if he can pull that off. Those UH teams were excellent at execution and playing hard. There are a lot of distractions in Austin and different personalities. It is a lot harder to do that at UT than UH.
The walk-ons and 2 star and 3 star players on those UH Herman teams had chips on their shoulder and wanted to prove to the world they could play. Texas has been pulling in the greatest talent in the state with the best facilities for decades but that talent has not ever been challenged to become excellent and come together as a whole. Yes Austin has distractions but last time I check the UH campus is in the 4th largest city in the US. Herman may not be the guy much like Sumlin wasn't the answer for A&M.
UT has NFL talent, Malcolm Brown was playing well as Todd Gurley's backup last night Quandre Diggs returned Sam Darnold's pick to the house The coaches need to get the most out of the talent
The USC game last year was probably the best performance we’ve seen from a Herman les Texas team so far. Hopefully we get a similar performance a better ending.
At UH Herman did amazingly well against the best opponents on his schedule......... he spent all his time preparing for them (at the expense of the games leading up to it)..... He will never admit it, but it is very possible Maryland was being overlooked somewhat. I expect UT to beat USC. The game plan will be excellent, and it will likely be executed well. The problem for Herman, is that his talent at UH was good enough to roll bad teams most the time, and then he could focus on the key 2-3 games on the schedule. At UT that is harder, because he faces 7-8 teams on the schedule that can beat a team not prepared. He would have to have Alabama type talent to do what he did at UH in that regard.
This and the players at UH were not thinking "Ill be here two years" or about the NFL.... it is one of the rate advantages of being a program like UH. They get talented players, but not UT.... as far as Houston being a large city, it absolutely is........ but in Austin, UT football IS everything..... and that isn't the case in Houston, too many other things going on. Herman wants to be a top guy at a top 5 program.... and I thought he was that guy, and maybe he still will be, but he REALLY has an issue with being questioned and at a school like UT, he is going to have distractions and will be questioned. Long term he may be better at a UH or even a Penn State.
Except not letting his running back run for short yardage and having his rookie quarterback run too much. Yeah I hope we learned from last year but I think our defense was better last year too
Like a lot of hot shot coaches, ego seems to be getting in the way. When you don't have any skins on the wall but insist on being right about everything, you're really making it unnecessarily harder on yourself and just come off as being a d*ck. Think we're seeing something similar with BoB. All that said, Herman really needs to simplify things and put his sole focus on getting the offense on track, including calling the plays. Stop trying to control the narrative all the time and get back to football. Trust Orlando to handle the defense and fix what you know best.
FWIW (being on that side of the fence)...that's one of the main reasons for the Fisher hire. Aside from just the rivalry, there is a real impact to which school is considered the leader in the state (which, ironically, should probably be TCU for the last several years, but, ya, that's never going to happen, at least until they win a national championship).
Me thinks Herman's fairy dust that got his teams to play up to their competition is exhausted. USC wins, 42-14.
