General Baseball Question: What happens if a pitcher refuses to leave the mound?

You mean when a pulled pitcher refuses to leave?

The game won't resume until he's gone, and at some point he will be removed by force and suspended for a significant period by the league. The team won't be penalized in any way unless there's good reason to believe they collaborated in the incident somehow.

There are no actual delay of game penalties between batters despite the leagues bluster about pace of play.

 

Player is dealt with via firing squad. Team is charged with an additional mound visit. Opposing team is awarded a compensation draft pick.

 

He gets a 15 minute time-out and has to eat baby carrots instead of Doritos.

 

The umpire would come up and say you guys need to break up the visit. The manager would say the pitcher is refusing to leave. The umpires would ultimately throw the pitcher out. Assuming he still refused to leave he would eventually be dealt with by security.

We haven’t had many guys really snap on the field in a long time. I believe nearly 100 years ago there was a riot between the players and fans (maybe Detroit?) and we have had the Juan M even with a bat and a few others. I am kind of surprised in 120 years of solid baseball we haven’t had a pitcher refuse to leave the mound. I would guess that the catcher or infielders would try to get him off the field.

Tommy Lasorda was, is, and always has been THE worst thing about MLB in my lifetime. Of the many, many, many people who were and are still infuriated by the Astros' WS Championship last fall, he is by far the one I'm happiest about. Fat POS.

As an Astros lifer that was a child through the entirety of the 80's, I grew up hating the Dodgers. For his 9th birthday, one of my best friends invited me and a few friends to an Astros game when the Dodgers were in town. A group of six 8-9 year olds and my friend's dad. The game went... late.

22-innings later, we had seen the Dodgers 3rd baseman strike out Cammi on some straight heat (causing him to shatter the bat over his knee), 15 combined pitchers including Orel Hershiser (16 if you count the aforementioned 3rd baseman), and the good guys walk off.

In this thread's context, I don't recall a player in any sport refusing to leave a game.

Players have refused to enter though.
