Hey guy, my boy and I were having A heated debate about which sport takes more skill, basketball or football and its come down to this question: A full court guarded shot vs a 50 yard guarded pass Please dont roast me for this thread.
I dont even think it's close but he wants another persons opinion since I'm a die hard basketball fan
That depends, is the 50 yard guarded pass for the quarterback or for the receiver? Oh wait, never mind, this is a stupid question.
Soccer or Hockey takes the most skill and I hate both. Ranking from easiest to hardest. 1) Hitting a 3 point shot in the NBA (can be done easily - set multiple screens shoot from 35FT). 2) Scoring a TD in the NFL (can be done if 1st and goal and you're the RB with a great OL). 3) Hitting a homerun in the MLB (can be done - see Bartolo Colon). 4) Scoring a goal in MLS soccer with defenders on you and a goalie (not on a penalty kick) 5) Scoring a goal in NHL while on skates with defenders on you and a goalie.
The arguement is which sport takes more skill basketball or football. Some of my point were that dribbling and shooting, make basketball harder to pick up for the average person, than throwing and catching a football. Also I believe that some of the best athletes in basketball can start for some football teams, while I dont think that's the case for football players. I dont mind having my opinion changed..
Golf and tennis harder than both too. I find both sports easy, throwing and catching a football is not hard and neither is shooting a ball even from 3point land. Especially if you use the backboard. Hitting a homerun is not easy, Bortolo Colon is not a good example to try prove that it is easy to hit a homerun considering he has only ever hit 1 in his career. Hitting a ball moving all over the place at 90+ mph is not easy. It takes skill.
Baseball requires far more skill than either sport, but it also requires less athletic ability. If we are just talking guys playing at the park, yes basketball requires more skill, but you can't play proper football at a park. Reducing football to simply throwing and catching is a comically narrow view of the sport. NBA players aren't as skilled as people think they are. Not saying they aren't extremely skilled, but the average size is like 6'7, how many 6'7 guys do you see walking around in normal society? There's a size qualifier that immediately eliminates 95% of the male population from realistically playing anything other than PG, and 99.9% from playing a frontcourt position, regardless of skill. It's why so many big men can't make a f**king free throw Most NBA players don't have the agility to play any football position except TE, and not the right frame to play on the line.
Throwing passes and scoring touchdowns... most players that play football aren't even required to do those things. Y'all cray. One thing I do know. It takes more skill to play NBA basketball NOW than it did 10 years ago. I don't think there are many teams that Ben Wallace would play 35mpg for.
This depends. What type of player are you looking for? Most athletic players in the NFL are DBs and WRs. Most athletic players in the NBA are guards (not including Lebron). Take the average from each sport and put them in the opposite sport. Which ones do you think will do good. Conclusion: this $h!+ stupid
Ask this: Is it easier for an NBA player to make it in the NFL or an NFL player to make it in the NBA?
If you're talking football, you gotta indicate which position. Punting does take skill, but I'd say performing at a high level in the NBA beats that any day. In my opinion the positions in football that take more skill than most nba players are: quarterback, wide receiver, defensive ends/linebackers, safeties, tight end. I would say punt returns, but they're not on the field usually often. In conclusion: this was a terrible question to answer, and I want my time back
basketball players can be versatile and acquire many skills. football players are asked to only do one thing but at an elite level. so is their elite skill harder to acquire than any one skill in the nba? probably. but is acquiring a well rounded game in the nba harder than becoming elite in 1 skill in the nfl? definitely. no one in the nfl has as many skills as lebron, giannis, KD, westbrook, harden, etc... they are all elite specialists like kyle korver, MKG, crawford, and DAJ. the nba has those too obviously, but the superstars' skill level sets the nba apart.
