[eta, sorry, I screwed that up somehow]

He's a DH at this point. Not a bad DH at all though next year...

As would Gattis (for much less $). Astros need more flexibility someone who can play multiple positions if called upon (Lowrie would be my choice of FA’s, surely Tucker/Straw, etc are in the mix)

See, you ****ed up my post too!

Gattis won't be back, there will be another DH next year. I like White if they can find a LH bench (OF?) guy to go with him.

I still hope they try and add another bat. I still think even with Springer, Correa, and Altuve coming back, we need one more bat.

One positive I've seen so far... Marwin is starting to heat up. I hope this carries into October.

Jose Iglesias would be my first target of guys who’ve cleared waivers. It probably means Astros carry 13 position players on the postseason 25

    CF Springer
    3B Bregman
    2B Altuve
    SS Correa
    1B Yuli
    LF Marwin
    DH Gattis
    C Stassi
    RF Reddick

    Bench
    C McCann/Maldonado
    IF Iglesias
    OF Kemp
    OF Marisnick/Tucker

I would love nothing more to see McCann being able to bring some pop with his bat when he is ready to go. That's something we are missing.

    Rooney, Iglasias and McCutchen

Drop down Davis and Fisher trade in one of those packages Will Harris

Once Springer is back drop down Jake.
Once Correra is back drop down White
Once Altuve is back drop down Perez
Let's hope like crazy mcullers and Devenski turn the corner

    Well, you're 0-1 so far.

    It's Rodney, btw.

    Why McCutchen over Kemp?

    Not mutually exclusive.

Jake/Kemp/Tucker/Fisher/???, take 2 of the 5, maaaaaby 3 of the 6, 6 if you want to include Straw.

Depends on what they do with the catcher situation.

Kemp’s numbers project about the same as McCutchen. Just slightly less homeruns, but about 20-30 more RBI’s. If Astros get McCutchen it probably closes the book on Tucker, Marisnick beyond September, unless they carried a fifth outfielder/13th position player. Marwin can man LF if need be.

All have earned postseason spots in my mind:

    Stassi
    Yuli
    Altuve
    Correa
    Bregman
    Marwin
    Reddick
    Springer
    Kemp
    Gattis
    One of McCann/Maldonado

So we’re talking most likely one but possibly two open spots amongst the holdover of McCann/Maldonado, Tucker, Marisnick, White, Davis and potentially someone they acquire.

Once again, point of order, last season they carried 11 pitchers in the DS, 12 after that. Who knows what they'll do this year if they make it that far?

The 3rd catcher is the "26th man", which is something I did not know about, but he can replace a catcher who gets a concussion at any time in a series. And only a catcher.

McCann will be on the roster if he is healthy.

Assuming they make the Postseason and everyone is healthy:

    Gattis
    McCann
    Yuli
    Altuve
    Bregman
    Correa
    Marwin
    Springer
    Reddick

    Kemp
    Jake
    White
    Tucker
    Maldonado

Then if you want 12 pitchers if they're lucky enough to make the ALCS you have to talk 1 of Kemp/Jake/Tucker

Say it's 2 of the 5 though. 1 of them is defensive replacement and pinch runner. I think for a hitter I'd rather carry Kemp than spend on McCutchen. And for defense I want Jake. For running I want Jake or Fisher. And Tucker if he comes around (and I'm not expecting it).

Just can't see space for McCutchen barring injuries...which are of course a real possibility. But I'd rather push for either nothing or a difference-maker.

If McCann is healthy what purpose does Stassi serve? You think they'll carry 3?
