Umm.. no. A star does not sign for the minimum. A former star does. It's a good signing, but it's not like we added Kawhi.
He's not the 3rd star for the simple reason that he is a 1 year rental. Why I say that? Because his situation and our fortune this year allowed us to sign a caliber player like Melo for dirt cheap. After this upcoming season, Melo would be looking for his next contract and if we still want him we will have to pay more than 2.4 mil a year. Than I will be willing to review his role on the team for a possibility of being the 3rd star.
Melo will be 35 years old next season. Who is going to pay him more than mle money? He might only be able to get vet min at this point.
Carmelo Anthony is a 10-time all-star and 3-time Olympic gold medalist. One of the most accomplished players the Rockets have ever acquired in free agency. We'll see what he has left in the tank at this point in his career.
People throw around "star" to cavalierly. Rockets have 2 stars, Harden and CP3 And some "high end role players" Capela, Gordon, Anthony.
I have no idea how Carmelo will do in a Rockets uniform. Could be a complete bust and cut before the season is over. I'm not going to attempt to dimish his success, though. That's silly. He led his university to a national championship. He's the only male basketball player with three gold medals. He's a ten-time all-star. A very accomplished basketball player I hope helps the Rockets win a championship.
5 Tucker Tucker is far more important to this team than Melo ever will be. And then there is Melton who I feel is a gem.
