Lance McCullers has never pitched more then 125 innings in the regular season. That was his rookie year.
He has been injured the last two seasons.
Last year he pitched 118 innings in regular season.
This year he is at 116 innings.

Last two starts for McCullers: 8.1 innings pitched, 10 hits, 11 runs, 10 walks, 4 strikeouts, 2 hr.

This is where I'm most interested in McCullers. How does he respond to going deep into the regular season and into the postseason from here?
We need his arm ready for the postseason. Will be counted on in a huge way since we didn't pick up a solid closer. He will be used once again out of the pen in the playoffs.

This. Yet another data point for the crowd that says "don't need bullpen help, hey, we can just use him in the pen later."

Stros are the only team in MLB with just 5 guys starting games. Thankfully the Stros have a ton of off-days from here on out, Hinch said something to the effect of nobody will be pitching on regular rest (ie not skipping starters) for the foreseeable future.

Actually in 2015 it was 157.2.

You have to figure in minor league innings.

Good mojo after last year's injury fest.

This is honestly the only thing that really worries me. And the bullpen.

Most will be watching McCullers from here on. Many felt he didn't have a starters arm and was more in line for the bull pen. Lets see if McCullers proves them wrong.
We need him, hopefully the days off in the 2nd half help our starters....especially McCullers.

He can handle 160 IP in the regular season no problem. Hinch will manage it to keep him close to that. He’ll move to the bullpen for the playoffs. Doesn’t guarantee he won’t get injured, but I don’t think there’s a huge risk.

    Curious...How stretched out is Perez?

Who would be our most likely 6th starter?

Would they want to break Peacock/McQ out of their ‘pen rhythm?

Probably one of Cionel Perez or Armenteros

I think the Astros want Perez in the pen this year. He could be a huge asset in the playoffs. He has good stuff, hope the control comes around. Need to give him a chance.

I don’t think you want to take out peacock or McQ unless we have an injury.
For a quick call up spot start, Astros would grab someone from AAA like Rogelio Armenteros, Brock Dykxhoorn.

My guess is Josh James with McHugh getting stretched out to take over it he falters.

I saw this on the main page and thought it said "Lance McCullers Appreciation Thread". Got scared for a moment he got traded.

    McHuge.

Of course Keuchel, Morton, McCullers, McHugh have all missed time in the past ~12 months.
