With Melo taking a vet min salary and leaving the MLE untouched, I was wondering who y’all think will be a buyout candidate this upcoming season? I’m sure part of the MLE will be used on Melton, but the Rockets should have planty left to be major players in the buyout market.

Also, will Morey get Nunnally back on the phone? Way I understand it is he was offered vet minimum like Ennis signed, and he turned it down.

Obviously, not for all the entire MLE, but something higher than what he turned down? Same could be done with Taylor?

Since when did you have to used the MLE to sign draft picks? I don't remember having to do that unless they didn't come right over the year you drafted their rights i.e. Rubio.

I thought the same thing. If he really likes the ally of nuns, then maybe he reopens those talks.

Otherwise, Booker might be worth something as Clint's backup. Or maybe we just sign our 2nd rounders and wait for the waiver wire mid season?

You don't have to but you can. As I understand it, it's a way to give your 2nd rounders longer contracts, which will be a huge benefit if they end up being good. (We did this with Chandler Parsons and it paid off big time.)

It's also good for the player as they get more guaranteed money.

This could definitely go to an overseas role player type but if we go after a NBA buyout candidate below are a couple of players I think might make sense.

    Tyson Chandler
    Iman Shumpert

I’ve been wondering the same thing. Everyone has been saying part of it will be used on Melton so I included him.

Thanks for the info. It would be very beneficial to lock Melton up longer than a normal rookie. If he can find his shot and get up to NBA speed, then he could be a great 2nd round steal.

I think we'll get at least one out of Ariza, Luc, Deandre Jordan.

Edwards and Clark are already signed. A good training camp would certainly solidify Melton's place on the team. Part of the MLE can be used for him. I don't mind Trevor Booker with part of the MLE. Utah might offer him a bigger contract. Booker can be a backup for PJ.

Too sign a draft pick beyond two years you need to use a partial bit of the MLE.

It really should have no effect on the Rockets though as they’d still have the majority of the MLE and no remaining free agent would balk at that.

    Jamal Crawford
    Swaggy P
    D Wade
    Yogi Ferrell
    Trevor Booker
    David West
    James Nunnally

    Top names thrown around

If we theoretically got a TPE for Anderson, could that be combined with the MLE? If so, that would be a lot of room to set up getting a disgruntled good player from another team midseason like a Butler.

Ferrell signed (or agreed) with the Kings.

Rest of those are all veteran minimum guys IMO.

Ariza and Moute, probably don't even need the MLE.

What do you mean combine with MLE? MLE is not cap space. It's just money you can use to sign FA's if you're over the cap. You can't use it to absorb salary.

Oh, okay. Thanks. Hopefully we can get a good buyout candidate midseason to sign with it then.

Perhaps we do 3 year deals for Melton and Hartenstein.

That would leave us with about 3.5 million. Would love to target Nogueria with that type of money.

Not a bad idea. Not sure Capela agrees though.
