Like this so much Koufos is a sleeping giant and it fills so many of our needs. Will we get WCS bird rights? We will
need some kind of control going into next off season.

P.S. WCS is taylor made it play with Harden.

The "Melo Keeps his Money" Deal

    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7n7dyze

The Thunder are desperately looking for a trade partner so they can dump Carmelo Anthony's salary and duck a chunk of the luxury tax. If he's coming to us anyway, a trade might make sense--especially if we cant get off of Ryno's deal. Sacramento has been rumored many, many times but here's my latest brainstorm/daydream/whathaveyou.

    We get:
    -Carmelo Anthony
    -Harry Giles

    Sacramento gets:
    -Ryan Anderson
    -Nene :(
    -Terrance Ferguson
    -DeAnthony Melton (Rights to)
-2019 1st Round Pick from Houston
-2020 2nd Round Pick from Houston
-2021 2nd Round Pick from OKC
-2022 2nd Round Pick from OKC

    Oklahoma City gets:
    -Iman Shumpert
    -Skal Labissiere

Why we do it: Apparently we want Melo and this gets him to us without having to negotiate a buy-out. Since we are taking on bad salary for a situational player (kind of like the one we are sending out), it doesn't cost us an arm and a leg to acquire him. At least he is an expiring contract with the possibility to contribute more than Ryno when paired with guys he has established chemistry with (CP, notably). We take most of the gamble here. Losing Melton hurts because he looked like Wolverine 2.0 out there in Summer League, but adding Giles is intriguing with Capela's current contract situation. Giles isn't close to being ready to step into that role at all right now, but he's only 20. I like his ceiling and hungry play this summer. We would prefer WCS, but in this situation we settle for Giles, mostly due to contract-matching concerns.

Why the Kings do it: Other than bringing their own begotten son home? Wings and picks mostly. After throwing 4yrs/$78m at Zach LaVine, it seems the Kings are interested in adding more young, athletic wings to their roster--Ferguson and Melton could help scratch that itch. Nene offers another strong veteran voice and they gain an additional pick for four straight years. This move also helps open up a logjam in the front court. (Which is the biggest reason they aren't interested in Capela.) The addition of Bagley III left little room for Giles to find minutes. Skal has been in the team's doghouse for more than a year and Shumpert isn't in their plans long term anyway.

Why the Thunder do it: They cut Melo's cap hit by nearly two-thirds... which would save them a ton of luxury tax money. Skal still has potential and is on a cheap deal and Shumpert provides insurance on another Roberson injury (albeit at a poor man's rate) as well as an expiring contract. Two 2nd round picks are worth the *$70m or so ($100m if they buy Shumpert out) that ownership would save. They could potentially buy second round picks from teams interested in selling them both of those years for a max of $5m each. The money makes too much sense here... especially if taking on Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala's contracts are the next best deal. Making that move would offer very limited tax savings.

*Math is guesstimated for luxury tax stuff

Kings not giving up on Giles this early. They are batshit over the boy in Sac.

The target needs to be WCS, hes the much better fit for Rockets anyway.

I do like WCS, who also gives us even more leverage in CC negotiations
    Double win

How about a mod of deal I proposed earlier:

    HOU
    Aminu (1 yr @ $7M)
    Meyers Leonard ( @ )
    WCS ( @ )

Like this trade a lot, so much better for Rockets, but Blazers losing a starter in Aminu just for 1 year cap relief?

Rockets cannot trade their 2019 #1 pick. You cannot trade your #1 pick 2 years in a row.

Rockets cannot trade the 2019 #1 pick. No trading your #1 pick 2 years in a row (unless you have multiple).

Not true since a 2018 1st-round pick is no longer considered a "future" pick...

*Getting Turner and Leonard off their books is Blazers motivation and it will take Aminu and at least 1 first to get it done. Missed that first time I read your trade scenario. Great job on this.

Slight tweak to add Nene (maybe Onuaku and VE too).
    http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yb2c6pk7

Include the signing of Melo after OKC stretches and waive and this is best move for Rockets.

    CP3/MCW/Melton
    Harden/EGordon/Ennis
    PJ/Green/JT
    Melo/Aminu/Qi
    Clint/WCS/Leonard

Even without Melo, PJ and Aminu are upgrades over Ryno and Ariza at 4 and 3 spots. Team got longer, younger, more explosive w/out losing depth or 3ball threat.

Leonard is also much better stretch 5 than Ryno.

Rockets can still make trade at deadline to further improve because of assets like EGo and Capela (need to sign 4 or 5 year deal, not QO).

For Houston, this is a ridiculously good trade.

What I like about it from Sacramento's standpoint is that summer after next they'll have $40M in cap space at a point where some of that young talent is maturing. Add an elite player and a wiley vet or two to a team with a more-experienced Fox, Bagley, Bogdanovic, Hield, Mason and Giles and you've got something that'll finally get you into the playoffs.

For the Blazers, I guess it works if they're desperate to shed the Leonard and Turner contract, but they'd be spending a #1 pick and getting nothing in return except for cap space NEXT summer. There's a big dropoff in talent between those two and Shumpert/Koufos.

I think the best (and most reasonable) moves the Rox can still make would be
    (1) 3 team trade: Houston / Sacramento / Brooklyn up

BRK: HOU 2020 2nd (HOU) + rights to Sergio Llull (HOU) + Kosta Koufos (SAC)
Brooklyn in essence picks up a 1st & 2 2nds for DeMarre Carroll - not a bad haul. Plus they are guaranteed to have two max slots for free agents in 2019.

    SAC: Ryan Anderson (HOU) + HOU 2019 1st + HOU 2021 2nd + rights to Gentille (HOU)
It's more about picking up a 2019 1st round pick than anything else. Sacramento should still be able to maneuver to create one max cap space slot for 2019 free agency.

    HOU: DeMarre Carroll (BRK)

    (2) sign Capela (5 years, $95M with $10M in incentives)

    (3) use part of MLE for Melo

    (4) use part of MLE to sign Melton & Hartenstein

    (5) sign JaKarr Sampson to a vet minimum deal

    CP3 - MCW - Melton
Beard - EGo - Htine GG
    Carroll - Menace - JaKarr
    Melo - Tuck - Qi
    Capela - Nene - Hartenstein

    Htine ship! ;):):cool::po_O

WCS, Aminu, Leonard > Bazemore, Dedmon

Better players, better contracts, better fits.
