The tweet is also dated a full day and half after the Fiegen article. I'm more taking issue with the fact that he's trying to present it as new information that he is privy to, when the fact is that the negotiations are still stuck in the exact same place they were two days ago. That's what I'm calling BS on. There has been no new info on this since Tuesday.
Wait, why are people talking about next summer if he took the QO? You don't think there are teams out there that would offer him a contract longer than a year? Like heypartner points out, teams don't have to beat the Rockets 85M/5 deal. They can do a shorter contract (say, two years) with a much higher per year amount and see if the Rockets would match.
Not only that, but if you read Feigen's article on this, that $85m/5yr offer was made on July 1st. Feigen probably held onto the story, out of respect for both sides benefiting from not releasing numbers during moratorium negotiations. But now, one or the other prefers to go public with Capela's ask and Morey's offer, since bad info was starting to float out there. Here's the article from Tuesday this week where Feigen sources that the offer was from July 1st. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...a-receives-85-million-offer-from-13064895.php LAS VEGAS — While the Rockets’ negotiations with center Clint Capela remain a stalemate, their offer has been much closer to Capela’s demands than had been described in recent days. The Rockets on July 1 offered $85 million over five years, with the contract potentially reaching $90 million with incentives, two individuals with knowledge of the offer said Tuesday.
I'll take a one year Clint rental when I know DO, Noel and 2019 1st round draft pick avalible.. what if Montrelz take the qualifying offer with the Clippers? When can sign him and keep it pushing!
Morey needs to offer 4 year $100 million contact with a clause that Capela shoots over 75% free throws each season. If not it drops to $15 million per year. Make Capella earn it!
Or for same amount per year (with incentives converted to base salary), but much shorter. I contend Morey's 5yr offer is distasteful in both the $8m/yr discount vs Adams, and also distasteful that Morey wants that discount for a max 5yrs. If you are going to do a discount that big, and believe in yourself, then a *shorter* contract is much better. 2yrs + PO for 3rd year ($18m/yr) has a strong chance of being turned into a offer sheet that Morey will have to match...and will get Capela paid better and sooner, vs a long, 5yr discounted contract...easily $25m more than an $85m/5yr over same time period.
It's baffling. It makes no difference if Capela makes $15mil/year or $25mil/year for our flexibility. WE ARE ALREADY CAPPED OUT FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. It only affects how deep we go into the lux tax, which we shouldn't care about as fans. Maybe the only thing is if he's locked in a cheaper contract, he becomes a more valuable trade asset later, but we don't have to worry about that since we still have Harden in his prime and won't be rebuilding any time soon.
I'd guess that if the per year amount was the same, the Rockets would match. If you are a team that want to pry Capela from the Rockets, you want to offer a contract you believe the Rockets don't want to match. Morey would take the risk that Capela might outperform his deal in two years and command a much higher pay. If that happens, he can decide whether it's worth it at that time, kicking the can down the road, so to speak.
Agreed. You can also look at the stat when Harden, Paul, Capela were on the court... Up until May 9th (including postseason), they had a 50-5 record. INSANE. Why break it up? We are in it and the Rockets will reap the benefits of having Harden/Paul/Capela in the fold. It's going to bring massive profits for the coming years. Fertita knows this. Fans can say what they want but our Core 3/Big 3 (whatever you want to call it) is one of the best in the NBA behind GSW. You lock in Capela and you have a shot at a title for the next 4-5 years. It's about plugging in the pieces where you see fit, DRAFTING WELL (one would believe we got lucky with Melton, etc.), developing the young talent, landing those FA's who want to ring chase, building the chemistry, etc. The tax stuff is something us fans shouldn't be worried about because it isn't our pocket books. Based on the offer made my Fertita and Morey for Capela... it would seem he doesn't mind paying it... as long as we have a shot at a title.
That's where the PO comes into play, and they could add a trade-kicker. There is precedence of teams towards the end of the summer seemingly doing a player/agent a favor by signing an offer sheet that will be matched. Bledsoe's is a prime example. There's quid-pro-quo favors going on with Offer Sheet teams and agents, where there's little to no risk to push out the offer sheet. More recent precedence exists, too, for teams to sign offer sheets that are easily matchable. I mean, none of us thought DMo would sign for $8m/yr with Nets. That was easily matchable, considering the Team-based Incentives never have to be matched. We all thought he'd be $10m+. recall, DMo was a free agent in 2016, the cap spike year.
It is our Money cuz the more luxury tax Tillman pays the higher the ticket prices and beer prices and food prices will be at the game. We should care! Why would you pay someone 100 million when he can't get it from anywhere else. No point in outbidding yourself.
It's not like we really care but if the owner is sweating it, we as fans can feel the anxiety too. It's not a positive.
Plus the tap beer is terrible anyway. Just stick to the already high ass priced bottled and mixed drinks at the Corona Bar... y'all will be just fine you fuc**n alcoholics. (includes me )
