CP probably gave it to him straight and said, dude we're not as young as we use to be, our bodies can't take the grueling 82 games. We need you at your best and playing starter minutes will not be beneficial to you or this team.

Is this how CP makes Melo better?

Ennis ain't THAT bad, he was a 3 win player, same as Luc.

Replacing Trevor and Luc with Ennis and Melo is a downgrade, but only by about 3 wins or so.

Smart guy. He will make a bigger impact on an Eastern conference team.

OAN: does this mean Josh Richardson is available if Carmelo will be taking his starting spot or is it Olynyk?

The RA for Otto Porter trade is imminent and will happen by 5pm on Thursday (but these things are fluid so it can change at any second).

the sad part is that he could really help a team as a weapon off the bench, but he’ll never see it that way

That makes sense, give him the chance to start and let him know that a switch will be made if it isn't working out. Teams experiment anyway in the beginning of the season.

    Melo wants to start?

Lock in defensively, play off of the guards, rebound and take the shots that are there.

Ball would be in his court

Miami is a better destination for Melo in regards to Melo's 'brand'. However, Riley doesn't let players strap on golden parachutes and float to retirement. He didn't let Kareem, nor Shaq, nor Wade, treated Bosh like a pimp treats his product, and he won't be soft with Melo either. So while Melo might hate D'antoni, he'll end up hating Riley more. Prediciton: He goes to Miami.

Trust me at this point I'm upset with that but at the same time I get it. That bench role would essentially have to be a 6th starter of sorts and he'd have to finish the half and the game but man imagine Melo and EGO coming off the bench firing.

Melo can start the 1st min / 1/2..of every game .
Then pull his ass and make him come off the bench unless he’s on fire

no team with championship aspirations is starting Melo if they have any sense whatsoever

Rockets pitching a bench role to Melo is a great thing...that’s how he’d be most valuable...if he can’t see that or won’t accept it, then deuces

Richardson is a better player than Melo so IDK how Melo starts there.
I'd love to have him on the rockets tho.

He should go to Miami and start there, if that’s really what he wants.

Under no circumstance should the Rockets sign him with a guarantee or even an “understanding” that he’d be a starter here just because of his all-star past. The past is the past. He is a minor upgrade over Joe Johnson, and that’s only if he drops the entitled attitude.

The gap between the Warriors and everybody else is greater than the gap between the Celtics and everybody else in the east. Philly has a chance. Toronto has a chance. Indiana, Milwaukee, and Miami can too if they added the right pieces.

So... we gonna lose Ariza, Luc and not add in Melo? This is interesting. Melton can't grow 4-inches taller. I'd like to think we'd be savvy enough to pitch a starting and closing role with a major role with the bench unit. Is he that dead-set on playing with Harden, or playing from the tip? I hope he doesn't view our bench players as scrubs - this ain't OKC.

I think this is gonna come down to basically whether we utter the word "bench". Increase your vocabulary Coach!
