I guess we all know that w/ his magnificent performance, Durant was unstoppable in tonight's game.

My question is, what are the best strategies to even make an attempt at stifling his possessions? GSW played very smart by switching everything so that Harden/CP is defending KD, it was eventually going to take a toll on em.

Is there any counter at all for this? Zone? Small ball lineups?

My only idea was to force a switch so that he is guarding Capela in the post to draw double-teams, which is a pretty shitty idea. But at least it'll tire him out? I don't know. Seems PJ did a decent job in guarding KD, but that came about pretty late...

You can't defend him. Just like you can't defend harden.

Don't put a short guy on him. He is going to hit that shot all day. He is shooting 60% from mid-range.

    he's unguardable.

there is nothing you can do but get a good contest and hope he misses. that's it.

with the way golden state moves the ball, and the way the rockets switch no one person will ever be the primary defender on him. it has to be a sum of all parts effort and he cooked anybody they put on him even capela once.

Agreed, but if they set picks to force switches, how can we counter that?

Can we clone Clint Capela and just put him on Kevin Durant? He continued to be terrific on defense.

I think the key with Durant is to be physical with him down low and make him uncomfortable on the catch. Once he gets a clean catch and gets into his move in rhythm, you're pretty much at his mercy. After that try to keep him off balance somehow. Maybe send double teams from their lesser 3-point shooters, but I think the Rockets generally don't like to double like that.

    We can't.

It's like Utah forcing us to take midrange shots and leaving PJ open.

There's no good choice. Just less bad ones.

well Ariza racked up quick fouls so having him play Durant wasn’t an option.

Luc couldn’t hit the broad side of the sky.

Sooo basically all of our defenders just weren’t there tonight.

We got game 2 and we’ll take one in Oracle.

You have to hope he's missing shots because if you put too much attention on him, the Warriors WILL find a way to exploit you elsewhere. Keep PJ on him and maybe occasionally bring some tricky doubles, but there's not much you can do. Especially when theres 3 other all-stars on the squad.

Do what Detroit did to Jordan. Beat him up. Maybe induce some type of injury. Otherwise, no chance

Man, a clone of Capela would MAKE this team... One guarding the paint and one guarding KD.

But dude that's a great idea to be physical w/ him in half-court, esp trying to force a bad pass. Although that seems hard to do w/ GSW.

If Durant makes shots with a defender on him there's nothing you can do. Capela is literally the only guy on the team with the length to guard Durant, and even he played great D and had a J drained on him.

Realistically the Rockets did almost everything they wanted to do to win this game. We just have to hope they miss a few more in the next one. They are a broken team that requires near perfection to even have a chance.

Joe Cheese is the Durant stopper

And Ryno has to play. I’m our win against GS Ryno defense was an xfactor against Durant.

Don't have Ariza pick up his 5th foul at the beginning of the 3rd Q

The best way to prepare for KD is to turn Ryno and scraps into LBJ

    Also, Astros lost G1

    Also, ROX In 7 baby

we're not going to double or bring help and leave shooters open.

we will switch everything and play him one on one after that. he will score a lot of points.

it doesn't matter who you put on him. they, like the rockets, will force your worst defensive player to switch onto their best offensive player.
