Doesn’t he struggle with asthma or has in the past? He def slows down towards the ends of the season; but carrying your team (yes even with CP3) for 70+ games will do that to you.

My fear is that we’ll coast into the playoffs and not be able to “turn it on” like the great teams do. I hope I’m wrong.

Great piece here. Thanks for sharing! Harden has it locked up...even if he is not getting much media play right now and the last 6 games of the season will not be his best.

The same bunch that screams we need to rest Harden....screams he is going to lose the MVP too. We hear less about Harden now because he has already won the MVP, and believe it or not, there are other teams and players that do deserve media coverage.

most in the media seemed to think that Harden officially wrapped it up after his clutch 42 point performance against the Blazers

they even had this segment on The Jump the next day

Harden will win the award pretty comfortably

No discussion as to the 2018 NBA MVP - - it's Harden. It should be unanimous if you ask me. Nobody ask me anyway and I don't have a vote but I'll say it-- James-the-Barber-Harden (also known as the Beard) is the UNANIMOUS 2017/2018 NBA MVP. Anything else will be uncivilized. But who cares about civility, one or two moronic sport writers will mess up.

It should be unanimous. Swap Lebron/Curry/Westbrook/media darling into Harden's spot and it almost certainly is unanimous.

Exactly! He is on LeBron's nuts. Was the ONLY one to vote Lebron last year in the Harden/Westbrook/Kawhi race. I mean, if he is going to vote Lebron in that race, you can bet he will in this one.

    Media:
“Lebron having perhaps his best statistical season”
    27pts 9ast 8rbs, projected 49 wins 4th in East

    Deserves mvp every year

Even when Harden is best player on best team with best stats.

Media also forgets that Harden has had
    29/11/8, 55wins = no mvp
29/7/6 = did not make all nba team

There is no debate. Any debate is just to fill airtime.

That Kelly article is spot on.
The MVP award is a moving target that the media will create a new narrative per season.

Most valuable to any team? How do you even measure this?
Most valuable to the top seeded teams? What's considered the top...4? 6?
    Most valuable to the league?
    Best player in the league?
Best player on the top seeded team?
    Statistical leader in some categories?

    Who the fk knows?

I know one thing. Harden has been playing out of his mind for the past 3-4 years and someone better give him a damn award. I don't care what narrative you have to write to get that accomplished..but it better happen this year.

Andrew Sharp, the biggest Rockets/Harden hater in the media, has even conceded that not only is Harden the runaway MVP, but that maybe his stance on him has been harsh, and that he's been the model of consistency for the last 4 years. Russillo allowing himself to be swept up in the narrative is pure garbage. This is a classic case of overthinking, and writers feeling empowered to shift gears because of "story lines." Give me a break.

These stupid ****ing stats, x points in y years on the left foot. Are people really this dumb? I don’t even like it when we do it for the rockets.

Like that consecutive 10 point game thing...smfh. Somebody needs to teach these people you can find anything nobody has done before with the right conditions.

Kobe on the final game of his 20th season scored 60 points! Give him the MVP!
