Like this signing a lot. Reasonable deal for a young solid player.

Think it might be the opposite if they can close on another CB and/or Solder through FA. You won't get a lot trading down with 3rd round picks but packaging one with future pick(s) could move them into the 2nd if a player they really like is there.

I might be wrong but don't believe KJax has taken snaps at safety outside of practice and preseason (if that's what you're referring to). Not saying it wouldn't make sense, just don't think it necessarily forces him.

I think so. We've traded up too much and lost too many assets in the process

Investing 34 million in a guy with a torn ACL, who is required to run and cover. ...

Getting Aaron Colvin has multiple benefits for us...

    - Sign young solid proven slot CB
    - Subtract young solid proven slot CB from division rival
    - Potential to move Colvin outside

    Barnewell's take:

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...trades-signings-moves-offseason-bill-barnwell

    CB Aaron Colvin, Texans
    Grade: C+

After the Jaguars stole away the Texans' nickel cornerback by handing out a massive deal to A.J. Bouye last year, Houston has managed to return the favor. With Bouye and Jalen Ramsey forming the best one-two punch at cornerback in football, the Texans have stolen away a guy who played more than two-thirds of Jacksonville's defensive snaps in 2017 by signing Colvin to a four-year, $34 million deal with $18 million guaranteed.

It's not as big of a deal as the contract the Jags gave to Bouye, but I also think there's less upside here. Colvin was a starter for the Jaguars in 2015, but struggled enough for Jacksonville to draft Ramsey and sign Prince Amukamara to take over as starting corners. When Amukamara left after 2016, the Jags signed Bouye as opposed to promoting Colvin back into the starting lineup.

The Texans sorely needed the help at cornerback, given that Johnathan Josephis a free agent and Johnson has been alternately injured and ineffective over the last two seasons. He might profile best as a slot corner, but Colvin has the size (6-foot) to play on the outside, and teams have found some of the best free-agent signings in recent memory by promoting cornerbacks into bigger roles, with Bouye and Casey Hayward as two of the most recent examples. The Texans still need to address their offensive line, and Colvin could fail, but he's a high-risk, high-reward addition at this price tag.

Lol it’s not like CBs can’t improve from 2 years ago. Plus they didn’t think of prince enough to keep him around either

They gave the butler deal a terrible grade too

This was the case in 1990, but now people return to near 100% after ACL’s all the time. It’s an Achilles tear that deprives you of all your burst on that leg and usually portends a quicker end to a player’s career.

I would have taken the re-sign Bouye route.

    I like it, Bill!
He will be our new Bouye without the cool last name.
I saw him put a hurting on that Buffalo playoff game.
He also does well with TEs, like AJ did.
We need another cb just in case KJ breaks himself showering.
