After the moves we have made, texans are still around 42-47 million left under the cap. Saving roughly 25 for draft and other team related needs, that leaves 17-22 million left for free agents and clowney extension. We may have over sold the idea that the texans would be major players in free agency. With Solder not coming, there isnt another tackle worth spending even medium dollars on. I think the henderson signing today shows the team understands their standing on the top free agents and has conceded to moving to 2nd tier guys.
Can't Clowney easily be above $15 million per? But you're right. This is why teams rarely rebuild in one year through free agency.
Since Clowney has a high cap hit, giving him a new deal won't change it much. Therefore we wouldn't need additional money this year to extend him
Signing clowney would likely be an extension and would only change his cap numper this year by a few million. They have other things to address as well like safety and tight end, i think their strategy is different than we expected is all. Going for value. I think its more than a 1 or 2 year rebuild to them, thus the 5 year deal for OB. I dont agree with their methods. I think OB wanted his yes man in Gaine and got him. OB is trying to outsmart everyone by not going with the obvious, (solder, butler, norwell, etc). Lets hope he is right and everyone else in football circles is werong i guess.
As far as CB priority at the moment needs to be A. EJ Gaines B. Mo Claiborne C. Bring back J-Jo if can't sign A or B
I agree. OB's moves have never made sense to me. Crennel's are solid, I think the defense can return to top 10.
