It's amazing how your mature second-guessing has put to shame the maturity of a 20 year old.

Now that is important if true. Could easily have seen him making an impact in the pen at a minimum, depending on how the season progressed and how needs became apparent.

At least we know this now and won't be considering him as an option at any point, especially at the trade deadline.

I don't think that is correct. Need to find document again, but don't remember that.

A player who received a suspension for violation of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program (player tested positive for a prohibited substance) prior to the start of Spring Training, during Spring Training, during the regular season, or during a post-season series (Wild Card, LDS, LCS, or World Series), is ineligible to play in any MLB or minor league post-season game(s) or series in that season, even if the player has completed serving the suspension.

http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/postseason-eligibility: Additionally, all players who have served part of a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs in a given season are ineligible for postseason play that year.

    J. Completion of Minor League Discipline
A Player suspended under the Minor League Drug Program who is
selected to or otherwise placed on a 40-man roster before such
suspension is complete shall be suspended at the Major League level for
the lesser of: (a) the remainder of the suspension imposed under the
Minor League Drug Program or (b) the difference between the maximum
penalty that could have been imposed under this Program (had each of
the Player’s violations occurred while he was on a 40-man roster) and the
number of games already served by the Player at the Minor League level.
In addition, as stated in Section 7.H.2 above, any Player who is
suspended under the Minor League Drug Program involving a
Performance Enhancing Substance that is also banned under the Program
and is subsequently promoted to the 40-man roster is barred from
participating in the Major League post-season that follows the season in
which his suspension under the Minor League Drug Program
commenced, even after completion of his suspension.

Has to be a PED, stimulant on MLB list. Considering drug has not been listed for Whitley, I suspect it is something not tested by MLB and would not be a post-season ban.

Yes you are right, gee golly he's only 20, therefore there was nothing stupid about what he did.

Because if this realization,I think they should go ahead and waive his punishment. Boys will be boys after all.

There's more to this story than has been reported. Calm.

I don't know the story and hopefully it was simply a stupid lapse in judgement, but if we expect a 20-21 year old to be mature enough to pitch in a critical playoff game we ought to be able to expect him to be mature enough in day to day living.

Supposedly it's amphetamines - and it's his second offense.

Hope we don’t have another Singleton issue with this kid, talent but can’t lay off stuff to let career take off.

If that is the case, that is a serious red flag........ something that the Astros really need to address. Could easily ruin his career.

Maybe we should keep him away from Bendan McCurry.

    Reported on 610.

It was speculative, but educated speculation.

His excuse is not only lame, but also a fable most likely. He likes getting high.

That’s what I’m worried about, too much talent to be throwing it away on bs. Might be knee jerk but this makes me almost wish we traded him earlier if true

If anyone here actually believes he "didn't know what he was taking" in the first place I have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale. Of course he knew it was adderall...every 20 year old kid knows what adderall is these days.

Also for those saying "he likes getting high" I suggest you go look at the adderall usage in the MLB these days, it's pretty high.

    Edit: https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...therapeutic-use-exemptions-adderall/76634278/

Seems a drug prescribed for ADD would be a "downer", since the mind is already racing. If no downer, it's performance enhancing.

Typically stimulants or “uppers” are prescribed for ADHD

This is not a recurring or habitual situation.
