Mario Herzonja is really peaking at the moment and was a top 5 pick in the draft. Orlando declined the option on his contract in the off season and it looks to be a foolish move as this guy can seriously play and will get good offers.

in 14 games as a starting forward, he has averaged 15.2ppg 5.1rpg 1.5apg 1.5spg 0.6bpg 49 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three in 29mpg. He has lifted it up in February a bit........in 6 games this month he is averaging 16.7ppg 5.7rpg 1.5apg 2.2spg 0.8bpg in 30.2mpg

The Magic just don't know how to develop talent and keep it

the magic are tanking and raking in as many first round picks for the coveted 2025 draft class.

    smart move.

He's been a low IQ and low effort guy for his entire career, with remarkable inconsistency. I don't know if a 16 game stretch is enough to wipe all that away.

That's true but he's still 22, never had a chance to play big minutes...the enviroment in Orlando is also trash, put him in a better team and he would do probably better just because of that.

Very hypocritical to now start blaming the new Orlando managment.

Where were you OP when Mario was fighting with his coach? When he didn't even try a little bit in defence? When he coudn't even run a fast break?

He has been a big BUST and it's his 3rd year.
It wasn't any FO or coach that made him lazy, stubborn and low IQ player.

he isn't a bust, he just wasn't given the right chances until now. He is flourishing at the moment. Doing it on both ends.

You can't call a draft pick a bust until 4-5 years. Players need time to get a good chance at it.

Don't know why people attack draft picks as busts so early in the career, it is crazy

    what chances wasn't he given?
Flourishing? Countless role players and marginal players have had periods where they were hot.

If he can STAY in the league for 2 more years that would be good for him. If he can carve up a carreer as a role player that's great.
HOWEVER blaming Orlando for not giving him chances that's quite hypocritical.
You can blame them for drafting him that high but they did give him playing time, they gave him chances and it was he himself who wasted them.

He has been paid millions and taking chances that arent available for others with nothing to show for it for his team and to have also the gall to blame them on top of that.

As for calling someone a bust, some things like work ethic, bball iq , personality are quite clear from the very first year.

Magic are the saddest franchise in the league. Even the Nets have rebuild plan. Orlando just trading away everyone since their Dwightmare ended.

    1) He might be good someday but hasn't been anywhere near good so far.

    2) He does have some talent but not enough to offset his poor decisions and poor effort.

    3) It is true that the Magic org sucks, but given the first 2 points above I can't put all the blame on them.

He will be in the comp 10+ years......it is only his third season.

It is also hypocritical to expect draft picks to be superstars after just three seasons. He is going to be a very good player when he is at his peak

I guess some people here just haven't been watching him lately

I agree with you on some points here, but tbf it's also true that the Magic right now are super trash, their best player on the court might be Simmons, putting up decent/good numbers in such an enviroment isn't necessarily something amazing.

I don't expect him to be a superstar. If he is a roleplayer with a 10+ carreer as you predict that will be major success.
But you cannot blame Orlando for opting out of his contract as you keep repeating.

He was given plenty of opportunities. He has been a major dissapointment. It was not just underperforming. His attitude, creating problems with his coaches, his work ethic..
He would get paid 5 million next year and already has been paid 11 million. And only NOW that he realised that he will be out of the league started showing some signs.

So if you want to put the blame on anyone for this situation focus it on Mario instead of Magic's FO.

It is still an NBA team and the Magic have been far more competitive lately when they have given him minutes. 6-7 in their past 13 games and Herzonja has averaged 13ppg in that run. He looks far more confident in taking shots and making plays.
