How do I know GMs are smarter than you? I read your posts. And unless GMs are extraordinarily short-sighted and ignorant, then they are automatically smarter than you.

Or, you could look at all the players throughout history that didn't lose all their trade value based on mediocre or bad debut at age 21. Here's an example for you from just last year:

Seriously....our own Dwight Gooden? The Dwight Gooden that pitched four whole innings for the Astros?

Is PSJ still talking? What an asinine argument.

If you want to hang your hat on a guy with 5.80 era in the majors and a 5.29 era in AAA, a 1.51 whip in the majors and 2.10 at Fresno, that's one heck of a hat rack and I wouldn't want to be on your side of the argument.

Sounds like Keuchel’s first two seasons in the majors. 1.5+ WHIP each year. 5.00+ ERA each year. McHugh’s first two stints in the majors were brutal. Gotta close your eyes to look at JR Richard’s first few seasons in the majors. Terrible WHIP, way too many walks and wild pitches. He was walking 6+ per 9 innings as a 25 year old and only striking out 7+.

The difference though is that... Keuchel, Richard, and McHugh destroyed AAA. Martes has been getting raked at both levels for over a year now. That's significant.

And if you look at Verlander, Cole, and McCullers, all three shread AAA and AA, and delivered in the majors almost immediately. Verlander had a rough first 11 innings, but pulled it together immediately. Morton is a case study, but he bounced back and forth for a long time before getting his act together.

Yeah, that 4.69 ERA in AAA, and ERA over 5 in the Arizona fall league was damn impressive for DK. Dude had all the makings before his struggles in the majors. And of course Colin McHugh, the guy that was so bad he was on the scrap heap. But he does have a dominant 3.72 ERA in AAA.

Probably best you don't bother looking at how McCullers 2014 season played out.

Destroyed? Keuchel had a 4.69 AAA ERA and a 1.333 WHIP.

It's as if many of you have never learned even the most basic principles of negotiating. First, you don't get what you don't ask for. Second, you start high with an idea of what you really want to make the deal happen. If you don't get it, you walk. The Marlins know they aren't getting Tucker. But they do have an idea of who the Astros might say yes to.

I'd love to get Realmuto...but if we don't, we're still the best team in baseball.

Our own Johan Santana also pitched in the majors at 21. Good thing we sold high there.

Don’t forget our own Hall of Famer Eddie Matthews, hit his 500th home run with the Astros. Still perplexed as to why he didn’t enter the HOF wearing an Astros hat.

Thanks for the helpful info, but wrong thread. This thread is to illustrate that Francis Martes sucks.

    /sarcasm

We're still the World Series Champions y'all, be merry!!

The ‘our own’ team could be managed by our own Leo Durocher

This is an epic thread hijack. A starting lineup or 25-man roster of the "our own" team.

    Durocher for manager
    Bill Virdon for bench coach
SP - Don Sutton, Dwight Gooden, Sid Fernandez, someone else on a minors contract a few years ago?
    C - Pudge
    1B - Eddie Matthews
    2B - Nellie Fox
    SS - Miguel Tejada
    ...

    SP Curt Schilling
    SP Randy Johnson
    SP Doc Gooden
    SP Robin Roberts
    SP Don Sutton

We've retired so many jerseys, yet apparently not nearly enough for such a legacy.
