Not sure how I feel about this. I seriously doubt Realmuto would supplant McCann outright. Likely a backup for this year and the DH when not catching. I do like Realmuto's cheap contract and he is arg eligible through 2020. How much does JT improve our WS chances? Is it worth giving up 6 years of Tucker and likely others too?
Possibly preparing for life after McCann? Easier to find outfield help than an everyday catcher? I don’t know what the Astros are thinking, I just like that they are.
I would love to land JT. He could go down as the best catcher in Astros history. He's that good. Adding JT would be a f'ing joke. Our lineup would have zero holes. I think we can get JT without giving up Tucker. Obviously he's their asking price, but you can piece together a sweet deal with our depth. I think this would get it done: 1-2 of Alvarez, Bukaskas 2-4 MLB ready fliers (a la Martes, Reed, Paulino, Davis) 1-3 young/raw tool fliers (Perez, Straw, Bostick, Dawson, etc.) That's a great offer. Heavy loss to our farm, but Luhnow can replenish that while holding onto our top chips. Really, these trades are about Luhnoh's ability to draft valuable players in the future. He has a keen eye for talent and value, so I can stomach a hit to the farm like this. That offer would not only revamp MIA's farm, but it would do so quickly. We don't need to add Kyle to make an enticing offer for MIA. Curious to see what other teams offer if JT lands elsewhere.
LF platoon of Jake and Fisher is a hole until Fisher proves otherwise. (Obviously one that we can withstand, but a hole nonetheless).
Marwin will have a lot to say about LF in 2018 too, but yes I see what your saying. Hopefully Tucker stabilizes the last OF spot by 2019. Marisnick/Fisher shouldn't be slept on, either. Jake made some nice adjustments before his fluke injury, and Fisher showed promise as well. Spring Training will get interesting. The addition of JT would just be an embarrassment of riches, especially @ the C slot. McCann isn't getting any better; I fear he may regress to a .5 WAR-ish catcher this year, but we'll see. He's so good in the clubhouse and with the staff that maybe you don't add JT, but it's certainly something I would consider. I didn't realize Realmuto was originally a SS, hence his athleticism. Wouldn't mind another Biggio, but those don't come around too often.
Would be shocked and very disappointed if they gave up Tucker. Fisher, Martes, and 1 of Alvarez, Bukauskas, or Paulino should be plenty. Realmuto would give them a top 5 player at C, 2B, SS, 3B, and CF. That’s sick.
You’ve been hammering on this for quite a while. I really didn’t see the Astros being all that interested. I was wrong.
So I havent really watched Realmuto. I'm assuming he can hit, but how does he compare to McCann, who hit about twenty hrs regularly, lefty, and not bad BA. But more importantly, can JT get ppl out stealing 2nd??!! It seemed like we didnt catch ANYONE stealing last year
