[Undisputed] Does James Harden's historic game put him atop the MVP race? (2018 NBA)

Skip Bayless is the biggest homer in the business. Last year is last year. You aren’t offering any hot takes by disregarding greatness right now in this moment by talking about what happened last year. James is the MVP and Russ isn’t even close.

 

I agree and empathize with Skip regarding Harden playing subpar or even choking in the playoffs. However, the MVP award is for the regular season. James Harden has been the regular season MVP this year and the past 2 years based on team wins, individual performance and making his teammates better.

 

Talking about Harden, not only does this man hate on Harden for idiotic reasons, but he brings out LeBron's quadruple double out of nowhere.

we can all agree that Harden has had some terrible moments in the playoffs...nobody denies that

As sick and tired as we are at hearing about Game 6 (I'd imagine it is far worse for Harden considering how intensely competitive he actually is), there is no denying it is going to be a part of his legacy until he shakes it off. That said, I take comfort in the fact that Harden has improved every year and this year CP3 is also going along for the ride. We like to talk about Capela improving each year, but Harden is a player where every year he could be MVP and yet, somehow STILL finds ways to improve.

 

I have a really low opinion of people that watch Undisputed and First Take.

Harden is the man. He’s had some bad games, a few were in the playoffs. You tend to play tougher opponents in the playoffs, versus tighter defense. It’s more likely to stand out then.
People try to make the narrative as if he doesn’t show up in the playoffs. There was a lot of pressure on him to perform in the first round of the playoffs last year being favored and going up against Westbrook. 37, 35, 44, 16, 34. Those were his point totals in the 5 games he led his team to a rather easy series win.
20, 13, 43, 28, 33, 10. That’s against the Spurs. First game was a blowout win and he had a lot of assists. He had two bad games, Game 2 where everyone played horrible and it was going to be pretty difficult to win after destroying them the first game and the unfortunate last game where I believe his body just failed him but either way it was one bad game.
Haters also point to Game 6 against the Clippers where we didn’t use him; well nobody would have outplayed Brewer and JSmoove those 15 minutes and guess what, there was a lot of pressure in a game 7 next and Harden scored over 30 points.
His finals with OKC. Since when is a young bench player responsible to carry the load?

Haters will always hate. We’re so lucky we’ve got a star that is able to block all that negative crap out and keep balling and finding ways to further improve himself and our team.

I'm ready for him to prove the haters wrong. We've had a couple bad nuggets (Games 3 and 5 2015 vs. GSW, Game 6 vs. SA last year) but overall Harden has still been great in the postseason.

 

Rockets were starting Jason Terry at PG and Josh Smith at the 4. Brewer our "6th man." That team was a mess. We had no business beating LAC, but we somehow did.

When we finally built a team around James, he flourished. He should have been MVP that year (and last), and he should finally get MVP this year. Paul is the best player we've ever put next to him.
