    Here’s why:
Per 36 Min stats are better offensively, Jordan slightly better defensively
Per 100 possessions harden better offensively slightly worse defensively
    PER higher for harden.

There’s a case for saying defense today. Is much harder on harden than they were on Jordan. when jordan played it was illegal to use any sort of defenses that load up on the strong side or anything like that.
Today, you're allowed to play zone defense now and youre allowed to double team which makes it harder to score. Notice how in playoffs teams will corner harden and that will disrupt the offense. If Jordan played in today’s era, that would happen to him as well. Which never happened in the 90s.

Teams took a lot more midranges in 90s those are very inefficient shots. Rockets with their system would probably destroy many 90s teams. Not to say if warriors played one of the 90s teams they’d run the team out of the building. Analytics have made the game much more efficient.

    Thread title is inaccurate.

If you say stat stuffing was as bad now as in the past, maybe.....

Maybe you can talk about Harden as the one guy that was the best player who has never won a ship yet.

I take Jordan because of killer instinct and clutch shots alone.

Some may even take Kobe over Harden in spite of his inefficiency but he rarely gave up, surely not in the important games.

Stats alone does not say he is better, he just had better stats in the regular season arguably and rarely showed up in the most important games against the Spurs.

If you take Harden over Jordan, well, at least you have a mini point.

Jordan was more popular and better at many things.

Mike never run the team in the sense of a Point guard, so Harden has the freedom and capability Mike never had. Diffrent style.

No............people doing threads like this act as if the game is the same, it isn't by a long way

you don't go by age, you go by how many seasons a player has played. This is Harden's 9th season......Jordan won his third title in his 9th season and had 3 MVP's and a defensive player of the year award

Jordan got double teamed every game and the defences were brutal back then and far better than today. None of this soft touch foul stuff

Not even close. Put Jordan with todays rules he would average 50 points a game. Imagine a Michael Jordan that your not allowed to touch. Even the dream for that matter.

    no...

also, Harden is just slightly better offensively per 100 in an offensive era playing for D’antoni while being much more than slightly worse defensively...107 vs 102 is a significant gap...

    numbers aren’t everything

No. And it's not close. Stats can be deceiving.

it is offensively more difficult to score in Jordan's era.

if Jordan was playing today, no question he'd be out there destroying many of the players who could be considered for MVP awards. defensively, he'd struggle because he'd commit a lot of fouls, but he'd adjust.

and he'd set records, destroy Steph's career by getting into his head, etc.

believe me, i want Harden to be great. he's just not there yet. but i will say, Harden is probably already in the HOF, and should be considered one of the greatest to ever play by the time he's done.
