Texans GM Rick Smith taking extended family medical leave

Wow hope his wife gets better... regardless of how you feel about his role as GM and within the organization have some god damn compassion people

 

Basically he is being moved elsewhere

 

Hopefully his wife recovers cancer sucks but we are strictly talking about football his spot should have long been filled with some one else

Reminds me of when Michael Corleone had to take "vacation time" in Italy while things settled. We will see him again with full control of the mcnair syndicate.

 

We all know the move they need to make: let O’Brien and the scouts handle player evaluations, then hire Morey and Luhnow temporarily to handle decision-making and building a stats department from the ground up.

 

Well that explains the report of Obrien returning next season

 

It is obviously the right move to hire a forward thinking GM to build this franchise.

But McNair can't look at what the Astros and Rockets have done for some reason.

 

Forward thinking NFL GM's get fired if their teams go winless for the season.

This kinda does sound like a drastic lie. Like he knew he had to make something like this up to get out of the meeting tomorrow.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if BOB knew a long time ago that Rick Smith planned on stepping down to care for his family and that's why he started leaking things that would put all of the blame for BOB's incompetence on him on the way out.

Still would fire Rick Smith / Bob.

Prediction. Smith moves into made up position. Bob gets extended for 4 years. He hires a bob GM. Nothing changes much.

 

Praying for the Smith family, say what you will about him but seems like a good dude and has probably out-drafted every other GM in the NFL in the first-round.

With that said, I'm excited for the possibilities of a new GM. We should be a pretty damn enticing landing spot, we should have our pick of the litter. Any early reports on replacement candidates?
