No, they won't profit on these. Not even close. You don't know retail very well. I've seen best buy, target, Walmart, & ToysRus all cancel orders for price mistakes. Usually you only honor small scale price mistakes (in a store you can correct it immediately, so it a small scale, while online is harder because word spreads fast).

 

Blew out a flipflop one night in Austin, stopped at Dicks in Bee Cave on my way home the next morning, they sold me a $48 pair of ****ing flipflops, only ones they had.

This exact same thing happened to Toys R Us website a couple of weeks ago. People could get Xbox games for like $10. All orders were cancelled.

Mistakes happen.

 

This was a perfect storm..bit of a unique situation. Dicks is trying to make headway in a new market...they botched up online pricing particularly geared to that new market...when they tried to undo their mistake, their largest competitor in that new market took advantage of the situation to build some goodwill and make Dicks look bad.

There are undoubtedly other situations where the retailer would not honor the price...but not this one. Not with these circumstances in play.

 

Dicks is garbage. I have to deal with their overpriced garbage in Chicago.

You realize those jerseys are made in mass quantity in China. I would be surprised if it took more than 8$ to make each one from an overhead standpoint. You and that other poster @JPM0016 don't get big picture retail knowledge from just being a sales associate. Believe what you guys want.

If you want to learn more go buy the exact same jersey from a site like iOffer. Direct from the Chinese factory for 20$. The exact patched jerseys. Cmon man, the direct source selling them for 20$ should tell you all you need to know about the cost.

Retail manager for over a decade at a company that sold those Astros jerseys and astros merchandise that just sat there until clearanced out because people didn't buy merchandise for a 100 loss team. Don't tell me what i don't understand. If i need a phone I'll come to you.

 

You couldn't be more wrong...Retailers like Academy and Dicks usually mark items up 50% from the cost to make room for clearance opportunities which means that $110 jersey we pay for, cost the merchant $55, which means Dick's lost quite a bit of $$$ on the $10 deal
