This is where the 2-Way deals are really good for the NBA. The euro league can easily pay more money than the D-league max salary of $35k. But with a 2-way, the player can max out at $275k pay practicing with the NBA team for the max 45-Days at full minimum NBA pay.

This is the first thing I thought of when they announced 2-ways. Gives NBA teams the ability to compete on pay against Euro clubs so the player actually gets to play here with the main club. Next is seeing NBA teams actually steal undreafred players away from Euro clubs with the prospect of more pay and 45-days training.

That said, I don't see Hardenstein coming here w/o a 2-way, because it's such a huge pay cut to play for $35k. Historically,, Euro players just remain stashed in Europe on higher pay.

Why don't you explain this, Carl?

Or are you trying to say he is 3/4 a good swimmer????????

#Racism has no place here. You should change this post to reflect what this board is about. #rocketsbasketball not stupid racist schtick.

Hartenstein is on the Vipers Training Camp Roster, so we will probably see him in RGV without the Rockets having to use a roster spot on him this year. Good choice, hope he will acclimate and do well in the G-League.

So is he signed to a two way deal or takes a roster spot?

    no. not yet, at least.

    http://www.spotrac.com/nba/houston-rockets/cap/

Apparently, he's just a straight 2nd-round pick, G-League stash. Pretty surprising for how little amount of money he can make there. He said something about just wanting to be closer to Houston/MDA's offense vs playing in Europe.

If he signs a G-League vs an NBA contract, I would call it more fortunate for us, than a "Good choice," as you'd think Hartenstein is taking a significant pay cut, without NBA insurance (??), to choose a league with a $35k max salary vs playing in Europe.

Maybe we are holding our 2nd two-way deal for him, and told him work hard with the Vipers, and we'll promote later this year, if he succeeds. And if he wants more money, go to Europe ... but regardless, looks like we intend to stash his rights for now, without an NBA contract.

True, he could make a lot more in Europe. But didn't play a whole lot in Kaunas last year, so I guess he just wants to develop his game and since the NBA is his ultimate goal, the G-League right in the range of D'Antoni and Morey is the right place for him. Hope the Rockets will bring him over for any practice session possible.

Wow, he's giving up a lot of money if he really signs with the Vipers instead. I liked him in the draft but he didn't look very good during the summer league.

Sounds like there will be no Llull homesick issues with this one. I respect that kind of drive.

Isaiah Hartenstein, eat lots of botanas while you're down in the valley. Don't worry about what it is, just ask for it. The Rio Grande Valley is the only place I've had one. It's not the same as a botana platter. Either way, delicious.

I can't judge based off clips, but for people who've seen Hart played recently...can he be a rotation player for the Rockets?

At the very least, he seems like he's more NBA ready than Zhou.

Hopefully his fundamentals and IQ make him a serviceable player one day because his mobility definitely won’t.

if he were more athletic he'd have been a first round pick. He isn't too stiff. His footwork is meh but he runs the court.

Let's hope one of Hartelstein/Qi/Onuaku takes a step forward and can replace Black as the 3rd-string center next year.

    Maybe, maybe not.

Zhou has at least a passable 3 point shot and shot blocking/defensive awareness. Hartenstein doesn't appear to excel at anything in particular atm. Zhou seems like more of a specialist to me, which usually means they can contribute in a minor way more quickly
