When the ball's in the hands of Harden and CP3, the first pass is usually the best one via alley-oop or a wideopen 3.

I don't care about the number of passes, it matters if the pass leads to points.

we pass once then the guy shoots, we don't pass 4 or 5 times before a player gets a shot off

When you have two of the best play makers in the game, your passes are just more effective. Unlike a team (say Sac) the Chris and James get the team good shots every time they initiate something.

Example 1: James Harden drives, defense collapse, he passes out, first guy swings, open 3 after two passes.

Example 2: Justin Holiday intiates, can't beat his man, passes out, gets it back, throws it in the post, post guy can't do anything so dribble hand off back to Justin, run a Pick and Roll, can't get through, throws it back out to some one who heaves a contest 3 after 5 passes.

    I'll take example 1.

It's partially because of the way we're built, but it is definitely one of the things we need to improve on. We don't move the ball and players enough, which is saving the opponents a lot of energy and we could be getting slightly better shots. I think this will happen as the season progresses, we tend to forget that there was a huge roster turnover.

So, we are talking about 0.4 of a pass from League Average, and 0.9 of a pass from the league lead.

Fun graphic, but it's pretty obvious that an MDA offense is supposed to trail on passes, and yet, it really isn't by that much.

Ah, that's probably it. Instead of the other shot rate stats we see for teams like FTr and 3FAr, you can also choose Midrange Rate or Morey Shot Rate, etc

Morey Shot Rate would be something like

    (3FA + Layup Attempts + FTA/2) / FGA

with FTA/2 using that fraction that TS% uses to account for 3 FTs, And1s and Technical...whatever that fraction is

passing excessively statistically is just a chance at a turnover.
probablistically just shoot it, maybe one pass. repeat.

Principle Morey only has one hall pass.
