Some discussion flared up in the Game Thread about this possession, so I thought I'd rip it, and maybe make a poll. Honestly, I don't know how to word the poll, but will add one if y'all want.

The questions that come to my mind when seeing this are: Is Capela doing something wrong that Paul is trying to correct? Or is Capela picking for Harden per the expected play? Did Paul want Harden to cut to the rim? Does Harden want to use that Capela pick, but with the ball.

that’s all it is. It probably was discussed too. Nothing to worry about.

Seems like to me both Harden/CP3 saw a gap in the defense that they both wanted to exploit but had two different ideas.

Harden POV = Capela had his man sealed, probably wanted to take a 3.
CP3 POV = no one at the basket/Lopez at the FT line, maybe wanted him to cut to the basket. IMO could of been an alley oop opportunity but they never run that with Harden.

Either CP3 wanted him to go somewhere Harden didn’t get / thought was wrong OR Harden felt he should get the ball being open. No big deal either way.

But do you think that's the play? Harden gets the ball to use that Capela pick?

Miscommunication on offense. Harden saw something that he expected paul to view similarly.

I don’t think they will or should be shy about communicating their views to each other

I just don't know why Harden has to jump up and down. I don't think it was selfish or anything. Childish though, perhaps. CP3 has done this team a lot of favors since arriving, Harden should respect that in my eyes.

The play is obviously to for cp3 to dribble the ball at the top of the key and if someone sees an opening in the D to jump up and down and clap your hands.

Capela misread the play. So used to picking for Harden, he forgot the play.

Did Paul wave off an off-ball pick for Harden? That would be quite deliciously ironic to ask Kenny Smith, Barkley, et al, who want to see Rockets run off-ball plays for Harden. 'eh @SamFisher

    What is Capela doing?
Do you think Capela is improvising, or is that a planned play to set an off-ball pick for Harden?

Could be, or are Capela and Harden actually on the same page.

Ignoring that midrange would have killed the Rockets last night.

I think it is a combination of all of that. Harden saw an opportunity with his man being screened by Capela so far away from him and CP3 not passing or seeing the chance to pass to him. Notice how when he yells and hops, his man has already escaped from Capela and comes over to cover? If CP3 passed it to Harden, it would have been an open (albeit far) three for Harden. At the same time, CP3 is motioning for Harden to go to the corner and for Capela to come set a pick for him instead. Capela sets a pick while Harden drifts to towards the corner after the D has already recovered and ended up with a CP3 midrange with a defender trailing.

Capela was definitely pushed in the back after the missed shot. Missed rebounding stat-pad opportunity :)

Not sure what happened between Paul and James, but James always looks petulant when he reacts like that. Bad look.

disagree. Capela looks to be doing what hes supposed to be doing here as he goes directly to the spot as does ariza and tucker to there position. for whatever reason cp3 and harden had a different idea. specifically cp3. not a big deal though to me

To me it seems like an improvised off-ball pick for Harden. It kind of looked like he motioned his arm at Harden to say he's going to set one.
