To those who compare his shooting to early Rubio. Yup but he is also much better and more progressive than Rubio ever was. Well, he can't shoot, I think he can survive by starting to look at Rondo and improve his Defense. Instead of 3 and D. It should be Trip Dub and D!
He does not have the scoring numbers to be Top 2 Rookie but I think he still will be a good player. Ben Simmons is in another stratosphere right now.
Rondo was different. Rondo played with 3 hall of famers and could finish at the rim. Lonzo can't do that. His numbers at the rim are as bad as his jump shooting. I'm not saying that Lonzo won't be a great player, but if he doesn't fix his shot, he will be Ricky Rubio 2.0. Fortunately for him, he is still young.
All I am saying he is already better than Rubio in some department, he continues to be better. There are also dozen guys currently serving their teams better than Lonzo but guy is 19. Well he isn't a Top PG right now. Can't expect everyone to break out in their first 2 seasons. Jury is out. He is on a good way yet overhyped 4 sure.
Show me how he is better than Rubio other than rebounding. Here are their stats from their rookie season. BTW, Lonzo is now 20. No offense, but Lavar caricatures aren't funny (SNL either) because he's already so off the wall. You cant even parody him.
Lonzo's FT% is very Rondo-like. His current percentage is a bit too low. But he has never been a good FT shooter, not in the NBA, not in college, just like Rondo. If he's not going to fix his shot, he needs to get better at finishing at the rim and toughen up on defense. Or else, he will be more like Rubio than Rondo.
I only watched a few Lakers game so I don't know but is his rebounds similar to WB where they box out for him? I know Lopez sucks at rebounding and Kuzma been playing and it doesn't seem like he's a much of a rebounder also. Anyways the times I watched, Ball has been super passive and he passes off the ball right away when he gets into the half court and then just disappears into the corner for most of the game. He doesn't control the game like Rubio or Rondo IMO. At least from the games I watched.
Dude conveniently leaves off the #3 pick, who is currently setting a ROOKIE NBA RECORD for 3pt% at 48%. I guess it's best not to compare Ball to the guy who many thought was the clear #1 or 2 pick. Oh, and Fox is shooting 32% now. Oh, and Ball has MISSED more 3ptr than everyone on that list has TAKEN (except for Smith), and by a big margin.
Doesn't address the fact that plenty of rookies are shooting horribly, yet we only pick on one. Also, the guy was making a list of other rookies shooting bad, not ALL rookies. So not sure how he "conveniently" left off Tatum. You really think he's just gonna be like, but not Jayson Tatum who has been fire, when it has nothing to do with his point? Lol
Those rookies dad didn’t say they were better that Curry. You get overhyped then be ready to back it up.
Tatum isn't the only rookie shooting really well. I understand he was cherry picking just the ones shooting under 30%. I brought up Tatum, because by selecting Ball over Tatum the Lakers contributed a lot to the scrutiny. Also, that list looks a lot different if he would just include the rookies qualifying, because for now, it's a small sample except for guys like Ball who are already over 100 attempts...but guys like Fox just jumped 3% points in their last game, because they have so few shots so far, his ranking changed fast.
Lance Stephenson has a better FG%, 3PT%, FT%, TS%, FT rate, offensive rating, winshares/48 and a lower turnover rate than Lonzo Ball.
