I know CP3 has barely played in a Rockets jersey but last night really impressed me.

Bev is a tenacious defender and a guy who I'll always be a fan of. But it seems like Paul brings more to the table defensively from both a physical and mental standpoint.

Physically, he is simply way stronger than Bev. CP3 has a powerful lower body which allows him to switch onto bigger players easier than Bev could. Bev might be a little quicker but that's debatable.

Bev and Paul both bring that bulldog mentality on the court, especially defensively. Both guys help lift the entire team mentality on defense by playing so hard. But Paul seems to be a smarter defender than Bev, not over-committing as much. I also loved seeing Paul get the guys in the huddle to go over a poor defensive possession last night, he's a true floor general on defense as well.

I think Bev might be better than CP3 in terms of individual defense vs. quicker PGs. But I feel like CP3s overall team defense is superior and will make him a more valuable defensive asset than Bev was.

Cp3 easily best defender I seen since Ryan Bowen.

i've always considered bev's defense to be overrated. he's a lot of bark trying to intimidate opponents, but then is very often out of position reaching for steals and racking up silly fouls. CP3's height allows some opponents to just shoot right over the top, but otherwise he's a far more intelligent defender than bev.

CP3's defense really shines as a "team defender." Just understands where to be. Some guys are really good man to man defenders but aren't good team/help defenders. CP3 is both.

Cp3’s presences on the defensive end seems to effect the whole team. He pressures dudes and takes them off their rythym which creates a lot of opportunities for everyone else on defense.

He pressured a dude into passing into an ariza steal last night.

Cp3 is a beast and has more physical gifts than beverley. I think he is easily more valuable of a defender than bev

Chris Paul is one of the best at getting over screens.

With how much PnR is played now this is a lot more important than iso defense

Cp3 is light year ahead of Bev in efficient, smart team D. I think Bev has a slight edge as an individual defender.

    This.

Bev's defense was always overrated. He made a lot of mistakes that cost the team defense effectiveness overall.

CP3 is a better defender hands down than Bev.

Beverley is a tenacious pest at times and just a pest at other times

CP3 calling out the opponents plays; gives the defense a sense superiority or edge by saying, “we know
what you are doing on this particular play.....bring it!!”

Players follow CP3’s role and communicate with one another better defensively. “Screen right or screen left”,
    “Switch”, “back door”, etc, etc.

Bzdelik big brain on the sideline with CP3’s big brain on the court results in top 10 defense eventually with this team

CP3 is one of the greatest guard defenders to ever live.

Bev competes like he is still in Russia, but he isn't CP3 world class.

Who still thinks we gave up too much for CP3?

    Bev is always hurt

Lou Williams seems to have lost a step

Dekker is getting no PT unless half of the Clippers are sitting due to injury

Trezl seems like he could be a headcase of some sort

Wiltjer is out of the league......

and we got the most complete PG ever in return.

Chris "Ru" Paul called out the double drag play before Jeff "Business Only" Dick.

I was going to post it. He's basically a defensive coach inside the court, really impresive! So smart, he's in his own league regarding defensive awareness.

There is another great aspect of CP defense : he steals a lot but he doesn't gamble doing that. Many other players move completely out of positions when they try to cut off passes - rarely with success but in most situations opponents just get open shots. That was for example Alan Iverson and Russel Westbrook style of play.

btw. I love how Chris was defending Kevin Durant one of the game of playoffs. Bev is amazing but I think he wouldn't be able to do that:

Paul's defensive IQ is in a different league to Bev's.
